We are home to more than 40,000 students in 200+ undergraduate and 500+ graduate programs, over 13,000 faculty and staff, 260,000 alumni worldwide and have been recognized as one of Canada’s Greenest Employers for over a decade.

**Working for the Department/Faculty**

The Department of Women's and Gender Studies (WGS) is a hub for feminist research, social justice studies, and engaged citizenship at the University of Alberta. It is a field of study that encourages students to ask big questions about the way that gender impacts how we think, how we live, and how we understand ourselves and others. Though the field historically focused on the lives of women, in the contemporary Women's and Gender Studies classroom, an emphasis is placed on the ways that gender, race, class, age, sexuality, ability, and size work together.

The Partnership for Research with African Newcomers (PRAN) is a SSHRC-funded Partnership Grant that includes 24 team members from academic, community, private sector, and government organizations across Canada and beyond. The goal of our multidisciplinary, cross-sectoral partnership is to co-conduct innovative research, co-create viable strategies and options, and co-build capacity to amplify Sub-Saharan African immigrant (SSAIs) resilience and ability to thrive in Canada. PRAN will chart a new path of innovative, partnered research to explore the content and design of social support that is anchored in emic, rather than Eurocentric ideas of what SSAIs and other newcomers need to thrive. To achieve this PRAN will:
1) investigate the meanings, values, forms, and strategies of SSAI resilience;
2) examine systemic barriers (e.g., gender relations and processes of racialization) to resilience, and

3) explore and develop new services and policies to optimize SSAIs' outcomes.

**Position**

**Duties**
- Understand the scope, objectives, and deliverables of the research, training, and community engagement goals of PRAN.
- Manage a research project work plan to ensure research is completed in a timely manner, according to project goals and funding requirements.
- Play a fundamental role in focus group organization, facilitation, and community partner interviews.
- Provide expertise in data documentation and analysis.
- Conduct advanced statistical modelling and data analysis in relation to project objectives, including demographic analysis.
- Develop, analyze, write, and submit manuscripts for academic journals.
- Assist in project organizational or administrative related tasks, including preparing reports and presentations for various stakeholder groups.
- Provide support and guidance to research assistants and project staff as needed.
- Support the project’s Principal Investigator as required.

**Minimum Qualifications**
- Educational Requirement:_
- PhD in a field related to population research in the social or health sciences.
- Occupational requirements:_
- Demonstrable experience in research and/or community engagement with Canada's African Newcomer populations in diverse and intersectional contexts.
- Experience working in an academic, training, community, or research setting.
- Ability to strategize and develop creative and efficient solutions.
- Adaptable, agile and technologically savvy; proficient use with MS Office suite, Google Applications, Asana, Slack, and PeopleSoft systems.
- Experience with ethics submissions, manuscript editing, and annual reports or related academic writing.
- Advanced capability with qualitative data coding and analysis software (e.g., MaxQDA).
- Demonstrated attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.
- Demonstrated skills in data visualization, interpretation, presentation, and reporting (i.e. Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills including strong ability to demonstrate professionalism, conf
