Reporting to the Manager, Health Sciences Library (HSL), the Library Technician is integral to LHSC’s care, teaching and research mission by linking clinical programs and professional groups to relevant published health information according to collective practice or education objectives. The Library Technician is responsible for fostering client confidence through outstanding relations and for building client awareness by effectively promoting the wide range of library services available. In addition, the Library Technician provides technical and business support for the HSL collection including: database maintenance, establishing and maintaining electronic resource links, cataloguing, resource acquisition, vendor and partner relations, and special projects. The incumbent assists in the department’s special projects such as facilities and IT planning, client satisfaction survey, regional database planning and so on. As a member of the HSL team, the Library Technician participates in planning processes, quality monitoring and improvement initiatives; and contributes to the overall advancement of the HSL and the Library Technician profession.

Status: Regular Full-Time

Rate of Pay: $27.714 per hour - $27.900 per hour

Hours of Work: 37.5 Hours per week

**Qualifications**:

- Successful Completion of a two (2) year diploma in Library & Information Technician**_ _**or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by the Hospital
- Minimum of two (2) years related experience
- Prefered Membership in at least one of: Ontario Health Libraries Association, Ontario Library Association, or Canadian Health Libraries Association
- Proficiently maintains skills and ability in the provision of document delivery, inter-library loans, reference services and basic orientation/instruction
- Proficently understands and applies principles of collection maintenance including circulation, binding, shelving, etc
- Proficently demonstrates knowledge of the structure, mission and role of the libraries and responsibilities of library staff
- Proficently monitors and communicates trends and developments within the library profession
- Ability to deal with changing priorities and constant interruptions
- Ability to work within a team environment
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communications skills
- Works accurately with special attention to detail
- Working knowledge of office productivity tools and the Internet
- Working knowledge of Library of Congress and National Library of Medicine classification schemes.
- Knowledge of the Anglo American Cataloguing Rules
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Knowledge of general functions of library catalogue software
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC’s Mission, Vision and Values
- Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

**Immunization Requirements**:

- Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis.
- Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step) and COVID vaccine series.
