Physical Literacy Instructor

Reporting to Coordinator of the Physical Literacy Street Team and City-wide Physical Literacy Initiatives. The Physical Literacy instructor is responsible for the leadership and planning of physical literacy programs within a community services setting. In addition, the Physical Literacy instructor attends events and festival in Richmond as a member of the Physical Literacy Street Team, teaching and educating the public about physical literacy.

**Responsibilities**:

- Plan, implement and evaluate developmentally appropriate physical literacy activities with supporting weekly lesson plans that are creative, flexible, and adaptable.
- Supervise, instruct and build relationships with children in a variety of physical literacy related activities.
- Provide a safe, positive and well-managed learning environment.
- Instruct physical literacy skills based on age and skill level of participants.
- Responsible for direct supervision and leadership of volunteers.
- Greet parents at the beginning and end of each class/events and discuss program information.
- Educate parents and participants of the importance of developing physical literacy.
- Communicate with coordinator, other staff and volunteers.
- Be a positive role model for participants.
- Provide regular individual feedback and evaluation.
- Follow Community Centre and off-site protocol for emergency situations.
- Ensure the safety of all individuals participating.
- Ensure the physical and emotional environment is safe for children.
- Report and document suspected child abuse, endangerment and neglect to supervisor.
- Ensure attendance procedures are followed.
- Clean and maintain room and equipment; assess equipment on a regular basis and report damaged items to supervisor.
- Ensure appropriate set up, take down and maintenance of program room and space.

Required Qualifications
- Grade 11 plus 200+ hours of experience working with children or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- BCRPA High Five - Principles of Healthy Child Development Certification.
- Must have either NCCP - Fundamental Movement Skills or Canada Sport for Life - Movement Preparation.
- Emergency Child Care First Aid or Standard First Aid and CPR Level B (or higher).
- Police Information Check (PIC).

Assets
- Coaching and leadership experience.
- Knowledge of physical literacy theory and vocabulary.
- Training and/or experience with individuals that require extra support.
- Second language.
- AED training.

Hours
- Days and hours will vary.

Compensation and Benefits
- $18.13-$19.23
