The Assistant Shelter Manager provides a safe and secure environment for residents and visitors.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Assists the Residential Services Manager with the day-to-day management and supervision of Stevenson House
- In conjunction with the Residential Services Manager, participates in the hiring, orientating, training, evaluating, and disciplining of staff performance
- Provides direction, support and leadership to employees through individual coaching and daily observation
- Oversees the scheduling of staff and the reconciling of hours, responsible for on-call schedule (sick time, vacation, etc.)
- Ensures policies, standards and procedures are being consistently followed
- Contributes to the ongoing development of the Stevenson House Policy and Procedures Manual, Employee Handbook, and Employee Orientation Manual
- Reviews client files and oversees process of investigating and approving or denying client extension requests
- Liaises with community resources and encourages community involvement in programs
- Member of local committees and working groups relative to Stevenson House initiatives
- Provides statistical and evaluative information to management levels when required
- Oversees the care and safety of clients in conjunction with Residential Services Manager
- Provides onsite back up support to and when required for staff
- Ensures security and upkeep of building and grounds is maintained
- Submits general maintenance requests to Property Manager
- Helps maintain the budget for Stevenson House with Residential Services Manager, submitting approval for spending through Operations Manager
- Performs other assigned duties as required

**QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS**:
**Education/Certifications**:
The successful job applicant will have completed a
- Post secondary diploma (e.g., B.A., B.Sc.B.Sc.N.)
- Certification as an Addictions Counsellor (Check school program requirements) will be an asset.

NOTE: Not all incumbents perform all of the duties described above but perform a similar range of duties.

**Experience**:

- At least three years of prior related experience, including at least 2 years of experience in a social service settings supervision, budgeting, working with marginalized clientele, and a social services background.
- The incumbent has input to and/or participates in budgets with respect to the departmental budget.

**Required Skills/Knowledge**:

- The performance of the job requires moderate amounts of keyboarding and walking, and occasionally climbing stairs, standing, and lifting more or around 20-30 lbs.
- The performance of the job requires continuously monitoring the environment, multitasking, and a moderate amount of attention when reading, and close listening.
- Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including coaching and/or conflict resolution skills
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in writing and verbally in English
- Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
- Strategic thinking and planning, creative and collaborative problem solving.
- Clear, consistent, and values-oriented decision-making.
- Strong skills in Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and client database systems
- Experience with UltiPro, Workday, or other HRIS is a significant asset
- Experience with CAMS (Case Administration Management System) is a significant asset

Hours of Work: Hours of work will be 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8:00am to 4:00pm.

The incumbent is responsible as a group/work leader. They are responsible for providing direction and checking results, but generally works along with those supervised.

The incumbent directly supervises up to 14 full-time employees and part-time employees.

The incumbent’s work environment is typically in an office or a work site within residential and community settings.

The incumbent will work under the follow disagreeable conditions:

- Exposure to dirt, bodily fluids, bodily waste
- Exposure to drugs and alcohol
- Noise
- Dealing with angry and abusive people
- Verbal Abuse
- Odors
- On-call emergencies and scheduling

The incumbent may have little to no travel required

The Assistant Manager is on-call 24/7 for emergency matters affecting departmental staff and clients.

**EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS**:
The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of moderate injury or illnesses due to:

- Physical attacks by others (i.e. being attacked by a client/resident)
- Exposure to infectious diseases
- Exposure to toxic chemicals (some environments)
- Exposure to bodily fluids
- Sharp Objects (i.e. needle stick)
- Other dangerous situations

**PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES**:
