**New Start is hiring a Community Navigator (parental leave) as part of our “Fatherhood Matters” program, funded by the Department of Community Services.**

**Contract length: 16 months, beginning March 2023**

**Wage: $35/hour, 35 hours/week, includes vacation and sick time**

**About New Start**:
New Start Counselling is a not-for-profit organization offering therapeutic counselling for individuals who have used abuse or violence within their relationships, as well as counselling for partners and former partners of clients. In addition, New Start provides therapeutic programming for male-identifying individuals who have been sexually abused. Located in downtown Dartmouth, New Start Counselling serves a culturally diverse population, often marginalized by poverty and racism, and includes both urban and rural communities. New Start programming has recently expanded to include programming for fathers/father figures under the **Fatherhood Matters** umbrella. Additionally, we offer resource navigation and other programming based on the evolving needs of clients.

**About the role**:
The **Community Navigator** is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of the **Fatherhood Matters** program, providing services to individuals who identify as fathers or father figures. This may include group programming, individual programming & support, and resource navigation. The **Community Navigator** must demonstrate sensitivity, compassion, and a non-judgmental attitude, as well as initiative, self-direction and teamwork. The **Community Navigator** will build collaborative partnerships within the community and represent the organization as part of committees and networks as required. The **Community Navigator** is also responsible for supporting the larger New Start community with resource navigation, contributing to general New Start programming as required and participating in weekly team meetings.

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor of Social Work, post-secondary diploma/degree in a related major or equivalent experience
- Ability to work collaboratively with a professional team, as well as independently
- Demonstrated experience with program development, delivery and evaluation
- Demonstrated experience working with parents and families
- Demonstrated understanding of a trauma-informed approach to service delivery
- Ability to effectively manage a client caseload, including appropriate documentation
- Experience working with diverse communities and identities using social determinants of health lens
- Excellent knowledge of community resources and experience with service navigation
- Ability to establish and maintain personal/program boundaries, while providing supportive services
- Ability to foster positive working relationships with community partners
