Job Description Summary

The Curator, Research Services will support the Kislak Center staff in its instructional program and work closely with the senior curator of research services, other curators, reading room staff, and faculty to facilitate the use and interpretation of special collections. Working collaboratively with other members of the Kislak staff, this position will assist in developing public programs, outreach events, and collection policies to promote stewardship of the collections and scholarship about them. Likewise, the Curator, Research Services will be part of the Kislak curatorial group and make collaborative acquisitions and collections use decisions. The Curator, Research Services reports to Director of Special Collections and Research Services in the Kislak Center.

**Job Description**:
Job Responsibilities- Researcher services: Prepare and conduct instructional sessions using Kislak Center collections. These include semester-long classes, one-time classes, and summer classes including hosted sessions of Rare Book School. This also includes working with graduate and undergraduate students and researchers doing independent or class-related research projects, in the reading room.- Instructional development: Working directly with faculty and other teachers to plan and prepare class sessions, select materials, and leading classes as well as developing new instructional ideas and methodologies.- Public outreach: Reaching out to faculty and Penn and elsewhere to connect them with Kislak Center materials. Working with graduate and undergraduate students and researchers doing independent or class-related research projects, in the reading room. Working with graduate and undergraduate students and researchers doing independent or class-related research projects in the reading room and classroom. In addition, working with peer institutions in Philadelphia and beyond to raise awareness and engagement with our collections- Exploring new methods of digital publication related to instruction and preparing web-based collection guides in collaboration with colleagues as well as other duties and collections-based projects as needed.- Collection stewardship: Serves on the curatorial committee which makes acquisition, processing, conservation, and other collections stewardship decisions.

**Qualifications**:
- Master’s degree in relevant field or higher and 1-3 years of experience in special collections (or related field) or equivalent combination of education and experience- Experience with object-oriented instruction with different constituencies- Research/writing experience in the arts and humanities of the 20th/21st century. Preferably a field related to Kislak’s collections.- Experience working in a highly collaborative team based environment
