**General Accountability**:

- Reporting to the Head - Vehicle Maintenance, the Fleet Manager is responsible for the strategic planning, management and general administration of the TTC’s vehicles (streetcar fleet). The primary responsibility is to ensure that sufficient vehicles are available for service through efficient and strategic long range vehicle fleet plans. Through effective management of the vehicle fleets, the incumbent oversees and directs aspects related to procurement, budgeting, scheduling and vehicle allocation.- The incumbent also liaises and interfaces with various stakeholders throughout the TTC for the efficient allocation and management of vehicles, but are not limited to: Streetcar Carhouse section; Streetcar Overhead section; Streetcar Way section; Streetcar Engineering section; Plant Maintenance Department; Engineering, Construction & Expansion Department; Property Development Department; Service Planning Department; Finance Department; Transportation Department; Bus Maintenance & Shops Department; Legal Department; City of Toronto; Ministry of Transportation, and Ministry of Environment.**Key Job Functions**:

- Develops strategic long range vehicle fleet plans, and budgets and schedules.
- Managing vehicle rebuild and retrofit programs.
- Optimizing the cost effectiveness of procurement plans; and provides recommendations on the general condition of vehicles for purposes of determining retirement strategies.
- Represents the TTC for on-site visits by representatives of the Environment, Transportation, and Labour Ministries, the Toronto Police Services, and other agencies.
- Ensures Federal, Provincial and Municipal regulations pertinent to licenses, certificates, stickers, inspections, repair, maintenance, health, safety, labour and environment are enforced.
- Acquiring, developing and maintaining technical expertise for rail vehicle design, operation and maintenance, for both the existing fleet and emerging technologies of potential future interest.
- Developing and manages multi-million dollar capital budgets for asset procurement and maintenance programs as well as develops and manages operating budgets for the maintenance of the streetcar fleet.
- Assessing and determining the need for, and required capabilities of major vehicle repair equipment for operating departments, reviewing options and making recommendations.
- Working with Streetcar Maintenance & Infrastructure and new vehicle acquisition staff in the development of specifications for procurement.
- Providing recommendations to supervisors on corrective measures required that are related to vehicle modifications, work methods or procedures, etc.
- Communicating situations to Technical Support Services management that may involve fleet design shortcomings, so that appropriate investigations can be conducted and modification programs developed and instituted.
- Supervising a team of budget/cost analysts, systems maintenance controllers, contract administrators and vehicle planners for the purpose of developing, tracking and reporting of streetcar maintenance budgets, schedules, plans and projects.
- In the absence of the Department Head, performing all aspects of the supervisory role (i.e. planning, organizing, assigning tasks, administering discipline, attendance, etc.
- The Fleet Manager may be required to substitute for the Manager of Carhouses, and/or Senior Manager. The incumbent may also be required to rotate between positions or different work locations in the Carhouses in order to satisfy the Streetcar Maintenance Department’s operational needs.
- Responsible for treating passengers and employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within their area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer.
