**About the opportunity**

Acting in the interest of the public, CPA Canada’s Tax group influences the development of an equitable, effective and efficient tax system in Canada, as well as delivers practical information and fresh perspectives on tax to members and the broader tax community. As the Vice President, Tax you will aim to increase CPA Canada’s reputation as the preeminent tax voice for CPAs in Canada and internationally and lead a team of tax professionals who aim to improve the efficiency, effectiveness and recognition of CPA Canada’s work in the tax sector. With a strong level of diplomacy and integrity, you will continue to strengthen CPA Canada’s relationship with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and the Department of Finance, as well as collaborate with various tax committees to help improve the effectiveness of the tax sector in Canada and globally.

In this role, you will:

- Work with the CEO and key senior management to develop and provide consultation on a strategy that includes identification of key tax-related issues as drivers that align with CPA Canada’s mission to act in the public interest, in turn, you are supporting the organization’s goals on providing informative tax information and perspectives to our members and the broader public
- Establish, lead, and oversee standing committees and working groups together with your Tax Team, including consultation activities and preparation of comment letters and submissions for the Federal Government
- Effectively lead, inspire and mentor a team, some of whom are remote, as well as an extensive network of volunteers
- Provide thought leadership to members including the development of articles, blogs, webinars etc.
- Proactively strengthen CPA Canada’s tax agenda and profile through media engagement, internal and external speaking opportunities, and similar events
- Collaborate within CPA Canada and provincial CPA bodies to coordinate common initiatives such as tax education and the development of tax tools and respond to technical inquiries
- Ensure CPAs are well represented in key national and international bodies that deal with tax administration and tax policy

**What we're looking for**
- Must have a CPA Designation. Completion of the CICA in-Depth Tax Course or a Master's degree in taxation would be strongly preferred
- A minimum of 15+ years of relevant experience working predominantly in Tax, with 7+ years of senior leadership experience
- Excellent technical and practical knowledge of the Canadian tax system, demonstrating analytical abilities, understanding and insight
- Extensive practical experience and familiarity with tax issues faced by members in practice and in business. Previous experience leading a tax group is preferred
- Strong networking and organizational skills, and ability to engage with members/other and to assist in building the CPA Canada tax community
- Exceptional people management skills, with a strong focus on collaboration, communications and coaching, including inclusive leadership, consensus building, excellent judgment, and decision-making
- Experience providing expertise in framing policy relative to government policy and legislative processes, including understanding of research methodologies and using those to build strong positions that support the strategic goals of the organization
- Possess a strong working knowledge of the federal government processes and procedures, including point of influence and stakeholder engagement through government relations
- Ability to work with groups with different objectives to facilitate mutually beneficial outcomes on difficult issues
- Superior oral and written communication skills are required to envision, articulate and successfully execute stakeholder communications strategies/issues to influence strategic objectives
- Previous media experience is preferred
- Recognition as an inspiring and influential leader in the tax community
- Bilingualism in French and English would be an asset
- We support a hybrid working environment. This role can be aligned to any of CPA Canada’s offices; Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, or Burnaby
