**We are looking for an Indigenous Relations Officer**

As an **Indigenous Relations Officer**, you will be responsible for liaising with Indigenous communities, curatorial and research staff and other stakeholders; coordinating activities and projects of benefit to CMH and the relevant Indigenous community. Specifically, you will liaise with CMH curatorial and Research Centre staff in responding to information requests from Indigenous governments, organizations, and individuals, and in tandem with the Director, Repatriation and Indigenous Relations, the Supervisor, Repatriation, and the Administrative Assistant of the division, you will work to coordinate visits from Indigenous delegations in respect of repatriation, traditional care, and other Indigenous engagement matters; and performs related duties.

**M**inimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in**:

- Working with Indigenous communities to define and achieve common goals;
- Relationship building and community consultation;
- Developing research proposals and plans;
- Conducting research;
- Analyzing and synthesizing data and developing reports;
- Liaison role to facilitate project objectives;
- Working in an environment that requires high level interpersonal and communications skills to successfully meet program objectives;
- Developing collaborative research projects, programs and networks.

**Knowledge of**:

- The history of Indigenous people in Canada and of traditional and contemporary Indigenous culture;
- The history of relations between Canada and Indigenous people in Canada;
- The political organizations and structures of Indigenous communities throughout Canada;
- The political, economic, cultural and social issues involved in conducting research with Indigenous communities;
- Techniques and methods of conducting research and writing reports;
- Negotiation, mediation and conflict resolution principles and techniques.

**Education**: A post-secondary credential (college diploma or university degree) in a museums
- or heritage-related program or discipline.

**Compensation**: E5 - $62,989 to $77,955 (under review)
**Status**: Permanent Full-Time Position (# 10455)
