**Wellness Clinician
- Duncan Location**

Kw’umut Lelum Child and Family Services provides a continuum of culturally sensitive, child-centered programs and services to families, children and youth in nine communities on Vancouver Island.

We currently have a **Wellness Clinician **position available for our Duncan/South office, and are looking for an individual that is skilled at working inclusively and respectfully with Indigenous peoples.

**General Accountabilities**
- Demonstrates an understanding of, and sensitivity to the impact of colonization on Indigenous peoples of Canada.
- Provides direct clinical services such as intake, assessment, treatment, and crisis intervention.
- Consultation/liaison with community agencies, schools, hospitals, and other relevant resources.
- Treatment approaches should be informed and shaped by a balance of combining a Western psychology/psychiatry along with Indigenous cultural practices and ceremonies that promotes healing and connection with culture.
- Administers and scores mental health-related test instruments.
- Provides comprehensive assessment and treatment planning and conducts individual, group and family therapy through an Indigenous cultural lens.
- Conducts suicide assessments and crisis interventions.
- Maintains basic knowledge of psycho-tropic medications as prescribed by a physician, maintaining an awareness of the effects of such medications.
- Works collaboratively with other teams at Kw’umut Lelum, and the communities.
- Promotes and maintains effective working relationships with clients and families, physicians, schools and hospitals to coordinate services, secure input, cooperation, resolve conflicts, influence outcomes, provide community consultation and provide educational services and training on emotional and behavioural disturbances.

**Staffing Criteria**
- **Cultural Knowledge**:_
- Knowledge of the unique and diverse traditional practices of the Coast Salish (Hwulmuxw Mustimuxw);
- Willing to learn and practice the values and teachings of the Coast Salish people in their work.
- **Education and/or Occupational Certification**:_
- MSW (Clinical Specialization), M.ED or MA in Counselling or Clinical Psychology or other relevant education with experience considered.
- **Experience and/or Achievements**:_
- At least three (3) years recent clinical experience working in child and youth mental health services, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.
- At least one (1) year of experience with family counselling preferred.
- Recent experience in child protection and/or protective family, Indigenous services experience preferred.
- **Skills/Abilities**:_
- Ability to assume a collaborative role;
- Ability to work collaboratively with multi-professional groups, professionals, the general public and Indigenous peoples;
- Ability to provide direction and guidance to Agency Staff;
- Excellent organization, communication and planning skills.

**Proviso**:

- Must possess and maintain a valid B.C. Class 5 driver’s (full) licence with no restrictions
- Vaccinated for COVID 19
- Travel is required to visit other communities
- May be required to work flexible hours (evenings and/or weekends)
- Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service, includes a criminal records check, and/or Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA) check

**Salary**: $41.00-$47.00 per hour
