This team has the honour and privilege of working with Indigenous community in the surrounding areas, offering a unique experience to engage with and learn from community in deep and meaningful ways. The team works in ways that honour truth-telling, wisdom of community and culture and focuses on creative ways to meet the needs of children, youth and families.

An integral member of a multi-disciplinary Community Mental Health Team and in coordination with other community agencies and professionals, you provide a range of mental health services to children, youth and their families, when the child or youth is suffering from serious emotional, psychological, behavioural or psychiatric illness.

The Indigenous Clinician, CYMH provides direct clinical services such as intake, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and crisis intervention for Indigenous children, youth and their families. This role provides group and family therapy while incorporating Indigenous cultural perspectives and provides consultation with community agencies both on and off reserve. This role also provides consultation and training to MCFD clinicians to increase awareness in the development of culturally appropriate assessments, planning and treatment for Indigenous children and youth and their families.

Consulting with community agencies, schools, hospitals, and other ministry programs, you understand the importance of being involved in community education, development, coordination and prevention/early intervention programs. You have a desire to serve Indigenous children and youth, focusing your efforts on understanding their interests in order to increase the quality of the service and produce better outcomes. You notice and adapt to cultural uniqueness in order to create a sense of safety for all.

**Job Requirements**:

- Masters in Social Work, Educational Counselling, Clinical Psychology or Child and Youth Care or comparable graduate degree at the Master’s level, or equivalent.
- NOTE: If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
- Minimum of one year full-time equivalent experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.
- Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service, which may include a criminal records check, and/or Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA) check, and/or enhanced security screening checks as required by the ministry (Note: It is important that you read the job posting carefully to understand the specific security screening requirements pertaining to the position).
- Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 BC Driver’s licence with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

- Two years or more experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.
- Recent experience providing mental health services to Indigenous people and communities.
- Recent experience providing services utilizing an outreach model.
- Applicants who self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.

Willingness Statements:

- May be required to use own vehicle on an expense account basis.
- May be required to work evening/weekends.
- Exposure to regular travel in remote locations.
- Will work with families and children and youth who are distressed and facing challenges which may occasionally involve exposure to unpleasant situations or behaviour with angry, abusive, or abused clients; exposure to hazards from frequently working around parents and/or children in crisis who may display volatile behaviour.
