QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training And Experience

Masters Degree in a health related discipline from an approved post-secondary institution.

Three (3) years recent related experience including two (2) years' recent related experience in the substance use or concurent disorder field.

A minimum of 2 years' experience working within/with Aboriginal Communities which can be demonstrated by meeting two or more of the following:

  • Experience working collaboratively with and/or within Aboriginal health and wellness organizations, through the provision of servics to Aboriginal individuals and families;
  • Experience with the delivery of a health service/program/project which is inclusive of Aboriginal teachings, knowledge or cultural practice;
  • Extensive knowledge of aboriginal and non-aboriginal health and wellness sercies available on Vancouver Island.

Knowledge of mental health and alcohol and drug addiction issues; psychiatric and suicide /homicide risk assessments, psychiatric and addictions treatment methodologies, crisis intervention and response techniques and strategies, the change process, and community dynamics;

Significant knowledge of available programs and services, their interrelationships, and their function in delivering services in the community;

Knowledge of applicable legislation, such as the Mental Health Act and the Guardianship Act; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Valid BC Driver's License.
