ONA is excited to offer a Summer Student position on our Legal Expense Assistance Plan team in Toronto. The successful student will be integrated into the Provincial Office operations of Canada’s largest nurses’ union, participating in the labour movement while learning about the many issues that arise for members and gaining invaluable networking experience. The successful student will have an opportunity to learn how ONA helps members with issues related to regulatory college, criminal matters, coroners investigations, privacy complaints and more

**This is what else you can expect from this dynamic role**:

- Lead a special project that assesses the challenges of Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs) in Ontario healthcare settings. This work will include:

- Reviewing the material on the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) website regarding the IEN registration process
- Reviewing other on-line material about the IEN experience in Ontario
- Tabulating information LEAP has gathered from IENs who have been reported to CNO
- Writing a report on the above.
- Attend weekly team meetings and weekly connects to hear about the issues that come through LEAP intake every week, learn about LEAP success stories, and participate in file reviews;
- Attend College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and Health Professions Appeal and Review Board (HPARB) hearings with LEAP lawyers, giving you an inside look at the role of the CNO.
- Attend LEAP workshops, learning about the many services we offer and hearing directly from front line members about the concerns in their workplaces.
- Review LEAP files to see if they should be closed; assist with other administrative duties as needed.

**What we are looking for**
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) student who will be going into the final year or second-last year of their undergraduate program.
- Must have excellent writing and analytical skills.
- Must be organized and detail oriented.
- Experience in database management is an asset.
- Other important qualities:

- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Adaptable, works well independently and with others.
- Ability to take ownership of assigned tasks.

**Must be willing to work at ONA’s provincial office in downtown Toronto five days per week.**
