The Sarnia-Lambton Children’s Aid Society is a trusted ally to families, communities & cultures in creating safe, nurturing environments for children and youth to grow and succeed.

Resources/Kinship Services Workers provide services to potential and existing foster, kinship and formal customary care families which includes recruitment, screening, training and ongoing support. This position also involves determining, in consultation with the Indigenous communities, suitable placements for children who are admitted to the Society’s care or require alternate care and to ensure that practices utilized in these placements are consistent with Ministry standards and the community and Society’s expectations.

The positions require some evening work, the flexing of work hours, and may require occasional weekend work to respond to the needs of children, youth and families and the service requirements of the agency.

**Duties & Responsibilities**:
Screening, assessment, support and timely reviews of resource or kinship homes to ensure that practices meet Ministry standards and licensing requirements in addition to the Society’s internal policies and procedures; preparing written assessment reports of resource/kinship applicants in accordance with Ministry and/or agency documentation requirements; consultation regarding placement and ongoing support of children with the family’s Indigenous community(ies) developing and delivering educational training programs to resource/kinship parents designed to assist them in meeting the needs of the children placed in their care; communicating with other service providers involved with the child(ren) and serving as a liaison to those providing care for the child; participating in case conferences, staff meetings and professional development opportunities both within and outside the agency as required; assisting resource/kinship families with the development and implementation of both reunification and permanency plans for children; supporting connections for Indigenous children to their communities.

**Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills Required**:

- Indigenous or non-Indigenous BSW Degree or equivalent or BA with extensive child welfare experience; consideration given to other relevant College backgrounds;
- Preference will be given to Indigenous persons, persons with extensive experience working with Indigenous communities, and/or lived experience within these communities;
- Must have knowledge of Indigenous history, people and communities and a demonstrated ability to engage with the communities;
- Must have a strong understanding of Indigenous culture, heritage and traditions; and a commitment to developing the highest quality culturally-appropriate service possible for the Indigenous families that we serve;
- Strong belief in the importance of family and sustaining long term connections for children in their communities
- Must possess a valid Ontario driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
