The Manager, Investment Accounting provides back office support for alternative asset investments. Includes managing the calls and distributions process, foreign exchange and hedging activities, investment accounting processes and policies, performance calculations, quarterly investment reporting, involvement in complex accounting transactions and systems. The manager will work closely with the internal investment team, external investment partners, the custodian and external auditors.

**Responsibilities**:
Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Manager, Pension Investment Accounting:

- Maintains an effective working relationship with the custodian, external investment partners and asset managers ensuring that financial reports are kept up-to-date. Reviews summary of reconciliation of internal financial records against custodian financial reports as well as the any applicable financial statements provided by external asset/fund managers. Supports officer in resolving complex discrepancies and ensures sign off for final reports.
- Leads on the establishment of a relationship and on boarding of new investment partners (joint venture partnership and asset managers) on accounting policies, property management system, guidelines, policies including coordination with internal investment group, legal and tax teams for the finalization of agreement.
- Oversees the data integrity for the Master Data for Pension Investment which includes internal investment accounting and performance management data. Manages capital calls and distributions processes and ensures that investment valuations are kept up-to-date.
- Reviews all assigned general ledger accounts ensuring that they are reconciled and analyzed on a regular basis in accordance with professional accounting standards, statutory requirements and corporate accounting policies, and also in keeping with corporate management information requirements;
- Oversees the review of holding companies’ financial statements, note disclosures and management reports to ensure accuracy and completeness, as well as providing valuable insights and commentary and approving final issuance of annual audited statements. Conduct audits for assets that do not have asset managers.

**Job Responsibilities (continued)**:

- Oversees the monitoring of the internal control of financial reporting process. Ensures procedures and processes are in place to accurately record financial information and any discrepancies are raised and addressed. Ensures compliance with the Statement of Investment Policies and Procedures (SIPP). Provides statutory reporting as required.
- Oversees month-end closing process ensuring coordination between internal teams, custodians and asset/fund managers. Manage monthly and quarterly reporting cycles, including setting deadlines, reviewing portfolio level checks and signing off on various deliverables. Reviews cash flow reports on a weekly basis ensuring that all foreign exchange transactions are executed and the alternative assets are hedged according to policy.
- Works with external auditors to ensure investment financial records and reports are in compliance with professional financial accounting and reporting standards, as well as investment industry practices.
- Maintains a current knowledge of pension legislation, tax legislation, pension evaluation and accounting and reporting changes relating to pension plans investments. Develops and documents processes for financial supporting functions. Develops and maintains investment accounting policies. Recommends improvement to policies, procedures and/or systems to increase operational efficiencies and to comply with statutory requirements.
- Participates in strategic planning sessions relating to the administration of the pension plans. Provides budgeting and forecasting advice and expertise to General Managers and Directors in Pension Services to assist them in managing and operating their organizational unit. Provides professional financial accounting, evaluation, analytical advice to the Investment Group as well as assisting in the preparation of investment reports and presentations to the Board and Committees. Provides direction and leadership to a direct report ensuring training, development and engagement.

**Qualifications**:
Education
- University degree, preferably in Business Commerce
- Chartered Professional Accountant designation

Experience
- 10 years’ of experience in investment accounting or a similar role, preferably with exposure to alternative assets
- Strong financial acumen and analytical skills
- Experience interacting with senior level internal and external managem
