Dow has an exciting opportunity for an Industrial Coatings & Fireproofing Focal Point / Owner User Inspector (ICFP/OUI) within the Alberta Operations Maintenance Organization

About you and this role - What you will do in this role

The Fixed Asset Integrity Management team is seeking someone with an owner’s inspector mindset and the knowledge and ability to provide technical guidance and oversight to the coatings and fireproofing programs in Alberta. This position will have a primary office located in Fort Saskatchewan.

The role is a 50/50 split position. Approximately half of the ICFP/OUI’s time will be spent acting as the focal point responsible for ensuring coating and fireproofing is maintained in order to maximize on-site process safety and reliability. The other half of the role will act as an Owner User Inspector for pressure vessels and piping, working under Dow’s Pressure Equipment Integrity Manual, to ensure equipment quality and mechanical integrity. The role will work in a dynamic, team environment with support from both on-site and global technical resources. Acts as an informal resource for team members with less experience.
- Industrial Coatings & Fireproofing Responsibilities:_
- Industrial Coatings and Fireproofing focal point for Alberta.
- Responsible for managing the Corrosion Management Project related to atmospheric corrosion for the Fort Saskatchewan and Prentiss sites.
- Coordinate annual atmospheric coating condition assessment, prioritize, and secure funding for deficiencies.
- Establish inventory of work in each operating facility and write work requests for each job.
- Establish cost controls and outline purchase requisitions for the required contingent and contract resources.
- Coordinate coating planning, material coordination, and resources.
- Investigate and implement new and innovative work execution techniques to streamline project execution, improve safety, and reduce budget.
- Work with the embedded contract organizations that will execute the work to ensure they are prepared and adequately staffed.
- Ensure appropriate coating quality control and quality assurance is performed throughout.
- Manage the program budget, cost tracking and forecasting, and ensure stakeholders are informed.
- Document status of each job in the work request upon completion.
- Identifies the Dow coatings specification for maintenance, turnaround, and project jobs.
- Troubleshoots coatings and linings damage and proposes repair plans.
- Engages externally with coatings and linings producers and suppliers to better understand available technology and request improvements.
- Engages with external technical organizations regarding new coatings, linings, or abrasive blasting technologies to reduce confined space entries and scaffolding.
- Manages the compliance inspections and repairs of Fireproofing as per Dow’s Principles of Loss Prevention standard.
- Works with contract organizations to get estimates for scaffolding, inspection, and repairs for individual operating facilities.
- Manages the PPMs for the inspection services and ensures they are completed as planned.
- Works with technical SMEs and the contract inspectors to prioritize the repairs.
- Writes work requests and documents completed work in the CMMS for historical tracking purposes.
- Works with the businesses to get work scheduled and executed.
- Acts as the Dow site representative for contract companies related to Fireproofing.
- Owner User Inspector Responsibilities:_
- Performs inspection activities as per procedures, dispositions and reports results for pressure and non-pressure equipment.
- Maintains records of inspection for pressure equipment including input to the summary report for ABSA.
- Acts as Owner’s Inspector for vessel and piping construction and for Owner User Program certified repairs; this includes reviewing and signing off contractor inspection reports.
- Schedules equipment inspections and repairs with maintenance and turnaround coordinators.
- Responsible for inspection activities and supervision of contract inspection personnel.
- Monitors process conditions and ensures that inspection requirements are adjusted as required to accommodate process changes.
