What to expect in the role
As a casual staff, you will have the opportunity to work on all of our teams in either our Group Living Department, or our Community Access Department. Shift days, times, and locations will vary however the expectation will be that you will support the individuals assigned to you for the duration of the shift. You will be provided with all the same trainings as regular staff, and all the same information and directions for the individuals you will be supporting.
Our Group Living department has 11 different locations across the city, and when working in our Community Access location you could be supporting individuals at our main Facilities in the N.E., in the individuals homes, or in the community doing various activities. The diagnoses and limitations of the individuals you support will vary but could include autism, cerebral palsy, dementia, schizophrenia, OCD, mental health diagnoses, as well as different behaviors or physical disabilities.
With a passion for supporting people with disabilities, you will be asked to support individuals based on their individualized plans and daily responsibilities could include (but are not limited to):
- Provide medical, environmental, emotional, physical, and behavioral support
- Engage with individuals in their daily routine including any activities they attend or appointments they attend
- Drive to meet, or drive with individuals to any scheduled activities or medical appointments
- Learn and follow the behavioral support plans to better understand client needs
- Complete client documentation such as behavior tracking, log notes, or incident reporting
- Assist clients in daily routines and activities such as household maintenance, cleaning /sanitizing of the home and swimming

You have a person-centered approach and will take the time to ask questions, and learn how to provide what is need in every different situation.
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum of a completed 1 year Canadian Certificate/Diploma in the Human Services sector plus (equivalencies will be considered, programs completed internationally may require a WES or IQAS assessment)
- Intermediate computer skills
- Valid class 5 driver license and a reliable vehicle with minimum $2,000,000 liability insurance by time of hire
- Comfortable supporting clients with a number of behaviors which can be intimidating
- Comfortable driving and working at multiple locations throughout the city
Preferred Requirements
- One-year relevant experience in the human services field, specifically supporting individuals with disabilities is preferred
- Flexibility in location AND schedule
- Any of the following trainings; First Aid/CPR, Positive Behavior Supports Training, Abuse Prevention and Response training, Non-violent crisis prevention intervention training, addictions training, Trauma Informed care, or other related trainings
Covid-19 Vaccination Policy - New Age Services Inc does require proof of full vaccination (minimum of two doses) to be submitted before hire date or proof of accepted exemption.
