**Job Description**:
**What is the Opportunity?**:
Under the direction of the Library Services Manager, the Orchestral and Ensemble Librarian is responsible for managing the library operations to provide conductors, musicians, and artistic staff with performance-ready music. This includes procuring, preparing, and distributing scores and parts for multiple ensembles (Orchestra, Opera, Chamber, etc.). The Orchestral and Ensemble Librarian also collects music following each performance, prepares and returns rental music, catalogs RCM-owned music, and maintains the Rupert Edwards Library Performance Collection. Additionally, the Orchestral and Ensemble Librarian supervises a team of Glenn Gould School Work Study students to assist in these tasks.

**Main Duties & Responsibilities**:

- Procure music, receive music deliveries, and verify inventory; notify Library Services Managers and Ensemble Managers of any instrumentation or doubling changes.
- Prepare scores and parts: transfer bowings, mark cuts, add rehearsal numbers, fix page turns, proofread and correct errata in music, and similar music preparation and repair.
- Ensure prompt return of rented or borrowed materials and adherence to copyright laws.
- Catalogue and file music purchased for the library; maintain accurate library records.
- Track all items borrowed or used from the performance collection and ensure their timely return.
- Prepare materials for auditions, including coordinating with music publishers on works under copyright.
- Work with staff, faculty, and guest conductors to identify music required for performances (verifying editions, keys, etc.).
- Acquire bowings and coordinate with the concertmaster and string principals to ensure correct bowings.
- Scan, print, and bind music, ensuring all parts are easily legible; assemble concert folders and digital files; prepare practice copies for strings; distribute parts electronically and inform the orchestra when folders are ready for sign-out.
- Maintain the ensemble library performance history database.
- Manages external music rentals; process invoices for payment; ships music; and ensures that it is returned in good order.
- Keep an inventory of needed library supplies.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.

**Job Requirements**:
**What We're Looking For**:

- Undergraduate degree in music and/or significant experience with orchestral music.
- Previous library experience, including MLIS or equivalent, is an asset.
- Familiarity with library catalog software (KOHA) is a plus.
- Ability to interact effectively with staff, guest conductors, guest musicians, faculty, students, and production staff.
- Strong ability to read music, including familiarity with orchestral and operatic literature, foreign musical terms (German, French, Italian), bowing marks, transposition, as well as proficiency in score reading and instrumentation knowledge.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft 365 Suite.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate and work well with diverse personalities.
- Knowledge of copyright laws in Canada and familiarity with music licensing agreements.
- Self-directed, with a strong work ethic and collaborative skills.
- Ability to think creatively, problem-solve in advance, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment with mínimal direction.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a high degree of accuracy are essential.

**Hourly Rate**:

- $30 - $35 per hour

**Additional Information**:

- Regular library environment, involving both extended PC use and handling of physical materials.
- Light lifting (up to 10 lbs.) is expected.
- Willingness to work flexible night and weekend hours during concert days.
