Visitor Wayfinders help guests at ROM find their way, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable visit. Recognizable by their Ask Me badges and friendly demeanor, they provide guidance on navigating the Museum, locating exhibitions, and enhancing the visitor experience. Equipped with knowledge and ongoing training, they offer personalized assistance to visitors of all backgrounds, making ROM a welcoming destination for exploration and discovery.

Joining this committee of dedicated volunteers will provide you with a unique opportunity to engage with diverse audiences, contribute to the Museum's mission of education and discovery, and be part of a dynamic team dedicated to creating memorable experiences for visitors.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Greet guests with a friendly demeanor and approachable attitude, ensuring a positive and welcoming atmosphere.
- Assist visitors in locating galleries, exhibitions, amenities, and facilities within ROM.
- Provide personalized recommendations and information based on visitor interests and inquiries.
- Respond to visitor questions about Museum collections, exhibitions, events, and Membership programs, or direct them to ROM staff.
- Represent ROM with professionalism and enthusiasm, serving as a positive ambassador for the Museum and its mission.
- Maintain knowledge of current exhibitions, special events, and Museum policies to effectively assist visitors.
- Conduct regular checks of entrances, exits, and construction zones to ensure thorough understanding and accuracy.
- Participate in ongoing self-development to stay updated on the building, permanent collections, exhibitions, and special events.

**DMV Volunteer Qualifications**:

- Must be at least 18 years old and obtain a valid ROM membership before volunteer training begins.
- After being accepted as an active DMV member, a nominal annual fee is required.
- Agree to undergo a criminal background check by a third party.
- Participate in DMV Training and Meetings as outlined below.

**Visitor Wayfinder Qualifications**:

- Willing to commit to a minimum of two years, with an average of 4 hours of volunteering per month (yearly minimum requirement is 24 hours).
- Ability to engage with visitors for a 1-hour shift; accommodation can be made.
- Flexible schedule with the ability to volunteer on weekdays, weekends, and some evenings and holidays.
- Willingness to assist during some special events, including March Break, ROM For the Holidays, Third Tuesday Night Free, and ROM After Dark.
- Passion for culture, the arts, natural history, science, and museum-related topics.
- Excellent oral communication skills, particularly in public speaking.
- Friendly and approachable demeanor, with a commitment to providing exceptional customer service.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and coordinate with other volunteers.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new information and procedures.
- Prior experience in customer service, hospitality, or volunteer work is advantageous.
- Knowledge of French or another language is an asset.

**TRAINING PROGRAM**:

- DMV Training Program: Includes a 6-month provisional term, including an orientation session on October 5, 2024, and other required workshops and educational programs.
- Visitor Wayfinder Training Program: Includes sessions on October 19 and October 26, 2024, covering various aspects of wayfinding, museum knowledge, and visitor engagement.
- Completed a minimum of 10 solo 1-hour shifts: be assessed by another Visitor Wayfinder to complete your training.
- Attend one 45-minute museum tour and one DMV general meeting.

Extensive self-development is a key part of your training. You will have support from other committee members for questions and practice.
