Job Summary

The Research Manager will participate fully in the day-to-day operations of the Cognitive Neuroscience of Thought Laboratory. The incumbent is responsible for the acquisition and set-up of equipment and procedures, organization and dissemination of communications, development of printed and web-based materials, as well as participation in the collection, analysis and dissemination of research findings. The Research Manager will also manage relevant administrative duties relating to the financial and human resource needs associated with the lab.

Organizational Status
This is a full-time position housed in the Department of Psychology and the incumbent will report directly to the Principal Investigator, Dr. Kalina Christoff. Works closely with graduate and undergraduate students who participate actively as research assistants and volunteers.

Work Performed

Works closely with Lab Director. Orders equipment, sets up research space and waiting room. Creates effective organizational structure for equipment, personnel, and data storage and management. Works with off-campus vendors to evaluate products, acquire equipment and supplies, and resolve problems.
Manages research projects including coordinating study protocols such as recruitment, study follow
- up, data entry and monitoring study progress. Ensures project deadlines are met by creating timelines, assigning duties to and monitoring the work of research assistants and volunteers, setting task completion dates, and creating and facilitating communication methods (e.g., group meetings).
Plans, organizes and participates in research meetings. Assists in developing and implementing research methodologies and procedures.
Conducts interviews, collects, codes, analyzes and presents experimental findings following protocols set by the Lab Director. Conducts literature searches in a timely and effective manner. Uses various statistical, word processing and database software.

Perform other related duties as required.

Consequence of Error/Judgement

Work is performed with mínimal direct oversight; the incumbent keeps the Lab Director informed through ongoing communication. Effective management of the project is important to maintain operational effectiveness. The Manager alerts the Director to any unusual situations that may affect the research or its partnership members, and keeps them advised of problems that have arisen or that can be anticipated. Poor decisions about policy, resource allocations, staffing and a failure to get the work done in a timely and effective manner would lead to damage the credibility of the lab, the project and consequently to the Directors ability to perform their jobs well and to a misuse of resources. Incorrect interpretation of policies and procedures could cause personnel, financial and operational difficulties.

Works under general direction within established policies, procedures and standards. Work reviewed against task objectives and conformity to standards.

Supervision Given
Oversees work of research assistants, technicians and students, as applicable.

Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
