Injury Prevention Research Associate, Shred

**Description**
This position will be research intensive supporting the Pan-Canadian research program Surveillance in High Schools and Community Sport to Reduce Concussions and their Consequences (SHRed Concussions) with a specific focus on female rugby. SHRed Concussions is a longitudinal cohort study led by the Sport Injury Prevention Research Centre (C Emery NPI), to evaluate concussion diagnostic tools, prognostic indicators, prevention, and management strategies among high school-aged youth athletes.
The successful Sport Science Injury Epidemiology Research Associate will be considered a scientific leader or expert in their area of specialization and is required to stay abreast of industry knowledge and changing trends. They will design, implement, monitor, and consult with leaders on SHRed injury prevention projects. They are required to maintain, update, and manage all relevant imaging data and information. Research Associates conduct evaluations and assessments, provide consulting services to internal and external stakeholders, produce technical documents for publication, contribute to peer-reviewed manuscripts, and lead project plans from conception to completion.
The position of Research Associate is a fixed term appointment for 12 months with potential opportunity for renewal based on satisfactory performance and the availability of funds. This is a 0.2 FTE. Part-time position. This position is part of the AUPE Bargaining Unit.
**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Along with the Principal Investigator, implement the strategic vision of the Shred Concussions program
- Ability to demonstrate assigned and scheduled tasks are done on own initiative and that results are beneficial to the success of the program
- Act as a liaison between research team, national, and international collaborators regarding the injury prevention components of SHRed Concussions
- Monitor and control the schedule, budget, quality and risk of projects undertaken by the research team
- Full responsibility for quality control
- Conduct research and provide documentation for use in scholarly publications
- Participate in high level funding and research strategy sessions
- Identify and pursue national and international research and development opportunities
- Develops operating procedures, safety protocols, and makes recommendation on workflow improvements
- Responsible for reliable and safe operation of all laboratory equipment
- Trains others in the operation of equipment and laboratory protocols, while maintaining a clean and safe work area
- Establishes and maintains effective, productive relationships with staff, peers, immediate supervisor and senior management and with the campus community
- Demonstrated strong communication, team and customer service skills, and an ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines
- Understanding of safety codes, standards, and systems related to specialization
- Must maintain the ethical and confidentiality standards set by external institutions (in regards to such legislation as FOIP) as well as those internally set by the University
**Qualifications / Requirements**:
- Sport Science, Kinesiology, Rehabilitation PhD is required with a focus on injury prevention
- At least 5 years of research experience in the field of injury prevention is preferred
- Expert knowledge of injury prevention methodologies required
- Previous experience with injury prevention strategy evaluation, video analysis, surveillance, and qualitative methods required
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Ability to time manage and determine priorities
- Project management skills preferred
- Ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders
- Provide technical support for others through consultation on research issues
- Must be open to learning and development and be willing to accept new challenges and assignments
- Demonstrated communication, organization, innovation, and interpersonal skills
- A positive attitude and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are critical to success
