**Duties and Responsibilities**:
The incumbent is responsible for supporting, designing, programming, and configuring AV and IT control systems in Carleton’s general pool classrooms, TLS departmental spaces and areas and other departmental spaces as determined by the Assistant Director. This includes diagnosing and troubleshooting challenging computing and control system failures or issues, which cannot be solved by the Learning Spaces Operational team.

The incumbent plays a significant role in supporting the design of AV and IT control systems and works closely with the Assistant Director and Learning Spaces Project Supervisor to ensure that control systems are secure, reliable, user friendly, and support future orientated technologies. Using vendor specific coding tools and frameworks, the incumbent develops, tests, and implements code to control and integrate AV and IT systems (projectors, touch panels, cameras, microphones, accessibility aides, personal devices, etc).

Additionally, this position helps support the IT infrastructure including mixed, augmented and virtual reality (XR) platforms associated with TLS’ Experiential Learning Hub, Future Learning Lab, Media Commons, and Production Services.

**Qualifications**:
The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

- AV/IT control systems integration is an essential element of the position, this includes choosing compatible systems, interfaces, and programming these devices.
- The Learning Space AV/IT Administrator must have experience with, and a thorough knowledge of, current and modern computing technologies. This includes current and emerging Windows Operating Systems, Mac OS and networking.
- Other training/certification in IT (networking, security) would be considered a definite asset.
- The incumbent should be ACE certified by AMX (or similar). This certification attests to proficiency in the NetLinx programming language that is used to control classroom equipment.
- Experience with supporting maker spaces, media commons, and similar is desirable.
- Familiarity with AMX RMS, Crestron, Extron, QSC systems desirable.
- Experience/knowledge of other programming languages, particularly for control systems would be considered an asset.
- Knowledge and experience with installing, upgrading, repairing, and troubleshooting computer equipment.
- Knowledge and experience with using and installing several types of A/V systems and equipment.
- The incumbent must have exceptionally good organizational skills and be able to effectively work both within a team and on their own.
- A required skill is the ability to explain, demonstrate, and teach computer and audio-visual concepts and methodologies to non-technical people. In this context, a superior ability to communicate effectively with clients at all levels is essential.
- Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong understanding of computer hardware maintenance and repair.
- Able to establish effective liaison/rapport with other staff and faculty across campus.

**Education and Experience**:
The above is normally acquired through the completion of:

- Four year university degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, plus certifications in AV/IT vendor frameworks (like ACE certification from AMX).
- Minimum of five years of relevant work experience. Experience in an academic environment is highly desirable. Equivalencies in education and experience may be considered.
