**Project Summary**:The role of the PICS **Better at Home** Volunteer Support Specialist is to promote civic engagement by establishing a cohesive volunteering support system within PICS. Serving as a central resource for volunteers, the Volunteer Support Specialist will be responsible for recruiting community volunteers from diverse backgrounds to support the various volunteer initiatives of the Better at Home program. This includes food support, transportation, friendly support, etc. This position will also require active support and collaboration with other Better at Home community partners. The Volunteer Support Specialist will be responsible for managing all aspects of the volunteer program including recruitment, training, and supporting volunteers to ensure they are effectively contributing to the mission and goals of the Better at Home program.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- facilitates the process of identifying suitable volunteer placements or projects by taking into consideration the needs of both community organizations and participants;
- ensures compliance with relevant policies, procedures, legal requirements, and safety guidelines pertaining to volunteers and their activities;
- establishes a set of procedures for screening, interviewing, and selecting volunteers to ensure they are the right fit for the organization's needs;
- conducts orientation sessions and provides training to familiarize volunteers with their roles, responsibilities, and the organization's mission and values;
- manages volunteer schedules, assignments, and logistics to ensure adequate coverage and efficient utilization of volunteers' time and skills;
- communicates with the community service to assess volunteer performance and program effectiveness, and provide feedback for continuous improvement;
- provides ongoing supervision, guidance, and support to volunteers, including regular check-ins, feedback, and recognition for their contributions;
- facilitates the essential skills session with volunteers in acquiring employability skills;
- organizes mid-point and wrap-up group touch-back sessions that will provide a platform for peer support and brainstorming;
- maintains accurate records of volunteer activities, hours contributed, and impact achieved. prepare reports for management and stakeholders as required;
- assists organizations to increase their capacity to support volunteer services by gathering and sharing information and best practices throughout the project;
- helps stakeholders recognize the benefits of volunteer service by actively reporting on project outcomes and volunteers’ success stories;
- participates in the marketing and promotional activities individually and as conducted jointly by staff, distributes flyers to employers, community agencies, organizations, community events and employment;
- service centers to promote the program; and
- performs other job-related duties as assigned.

**Qualifications & Experience**:

- completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business/ Social Work or a related discipline; or the equivalent of education, training, experience, and certification;
- minimum two (2) years of successful experience working with youth population; experience in a not-for-profit organization is considered an asset;
- experience in handling a volunteer program and volunteer management in a not-for-profit setting is an asset;
- competence in networking and building relationships with various stakeholders;
- proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite;
- knowledge of the use of social media for marketing and connecting with clients;
- knowledge and/or experience in interviewing, data collection, record keeping, and confidentiality concerning volunteer records;
- excellent verbal and written communication skills in English;
- outstanding leadership skills;
- creative and shows initiative;
- fluency in a second language (French, Spanish, Cantonese, Tagalog, etc.) is a definite asset; and
- able to work flexible hours (some evenings and weekends may be required to meet the operational needs of the project).

**Additional Information**:

- A Class 5 driver’s license and a reliable vehicle would be an asset; and
- clean Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector).
