**Role Responsibilities**:
- Are you passionate about conservation and skilled in species management? We’re looking for a Status and Recovery Manager to lead critical initiatives that protect Alberta's species at risk and conserve natural habitats.
The Status and Recovery Manager will provide leadership in the conservation, recovery, and management of species at risk across provincial and private lands in Alberta. Working closely with the Director of Species at Risk and Stewardship, you’ll oversee policies, programs, and partnerships vital to environmental sustainability, guiding your team of biologists in delivering impactful conservation outcomes.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Direct a team of experienced biologists, ensuring alignment with conservation priorities, mentoring staff, and fostering an environment of respect and collaboration.
- Develop and review policies and recovery plans that align with Alberta’s Species at Risk Act and federal regulations, ensuring sustainable management of species and habitats.
- Coordinate high-priority projects, manage budgets, and negotiate intergovernmental agreements to support species conservation.
- Build strong relationships with Indigenous communities, stakeholders, and government entities to drive shared conservation goals and resolve emerging issues.
- Provide guidance on species management issues, analyze emerging challenges, and develop strategic solutions that respect ecological, social, and economic considerations.

**Develop Networks**: Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal teams, Indigenous communities, federal agencies, industry groups, and environmental organizations is crucial. This role relies on collaboration to drive shared objectives, facilitate negotiations, and foster support for species at risk programs and policies.
**Build Collaborative Environments**: Success in this role requires fostering a supportive, inclusive, and respectful work culture within the team and across cross-functional partnerships. The manager will lead engagements that encourage stakeholder input, facilitate consensus, and maintain transparent communication.
**Qualifications**:
**Required**:
- A bachelor’s degree in in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Sciences, Conservation Biology, or a closely related field.
- A minimum of 6 years of progressive leadership experience in wildlife management, species at risk conservation, and land use management, with demonstrated expertise in leading cross-functional teams, policy development, and stakeholder collaboration.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively across Alberta.
**Equivalency**:
- Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.
**Assets**:
- Knowledge of provincial and federal legislation, including but not limited to the Alberta Land Stewardship Act, Prairie Prevention Act, Water Act, the Wildlife Act and Regulations, Fisheries Act (Alberta), Public Lands Act, Forests Act, federal Species at Risk Act, federal Fisheries Act and Alberta’s land use and environmental policies.
