Primary Duties
Reporting to the Supervisor of Services and Gas Operations, the Gas System Operator will conduct field investigation and documentation activities including: identification, installation, maintenance, inspection. The incumbent will provide emergency response as it relates to the natural gas distribution system, including gas leaks and damages. The incumbent will also conduct work in accordance with CSA Z662 Oil and Gas Pipeline Systems, and Conduct, inspect, and light gas appliance and, where necessary, issue hazard reports as per the Natural Gas and Propane Code B149 and Ontario Regulation 212/01 (TSSA).This position demands a certain level and duration of physical exertion to perform critical tasks in support of critical job functions
Education, Certification and Other Qualifications Required
- Minimum Grade 12 Diploma
- Minimum Gas Technician 2 (G2) certification, as recognized by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA). Must have, or ability to obtain through Utilities Kingston, Gas Utility Technician 1.
- Must have, or ability to obtain through Utilities Kingston, Gas Pipeline Inspector Certification
- 2-3 years of experience in natural gas utility construction and maintenance considered an asset
- Leadership, team player, organized, resourceful and self-directed
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- ARZ class driver’s license with Z endorsement and 0 - 8 Mobile Crane certification is an asset.
- Experience operating a Back Hoe is an asset
- Working knowledge of the CSA Z662 Oil and Gas Pipeline Systems, and Natural Gas and Propane Code B149 is an asset
- Computer Skills is an asset

Special Working Conditions/Conditions of Employment
- This position will be required to be on call on a rotational basis for the purpose of responding the the incident scene in less than one hour.
- Maintain at minimum a valid “G” driver’s license and appropriate Gas Technician Certification throughout employment
