The Markham and East York Agricultural Society is in search of a Lead Hand - Facilities and Grounds, to support the day-to-day operations of Markham Fairgrounds and the ongoing success of Markham Fair.

Reporting to the Property Manager, the Lead Hand - Facilities and Grounds is responsible for the safe and secure maintenance and operation of a multi-purpose facility on a 100-acre property. The primary focus is to ensure the proper maintenance and repair of Markham Fairgrounds, while interacting with staff, community, tenants, and volunteers.

**Other duties as assigned by management**

The Lead Hand - Facilities and Grounds, will assist with other duties and special projects as they are assigned.

**REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE**
- High school diploma and/or trade certification or experience
- Forklift license
- Driver’s license “G”
- Working at heights training
- Ability to work evenings and weekends
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in operating equipment, including tractors, skid steers, scissor lift
- Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently;
- Problem-solving skills;
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft office.

- Ability to handle a high volume of work in a short period of time, handle multiple priorities simultaneously and operate in a demanding work environment is important.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**

While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is frequently required to reach, grasp, finger, stand and/or sit for long periods of time, walk, talk and hear; occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually low, but can occasionally be moderately loud, depending on location. There are frequent interruptions and multiple demands.

The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, mechanical parts, electric currents, vibrations and the like; may be occasionally exposed to chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, gases and poor ventilation. The employee may be required to work in restricted spaces.

**PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Day-to-day maintenance and operation of facilities and grounds
- Perform minor building, HVAC, plumbing, electrical and painting repairs as necessary.
- Implement preventative maintenance measures
- Complete inspections of equipment and property and make recommendations to management concerning the same.
- Snow removal during winter months
- Follow health and safety policy and code of conduct
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Set up and tear down of client events

**Salary**: $21.00-$23.00 per hour
