**Position** Cook

**Reporting** This role has a dual reporting structure. This role reports into our CEO and our Operations Manager.

**Company** We are opening a Bistro/Café in the Ottawa area, offering a variety of delicious food and drink options tailored to busy business professionals.

**Salary** Starting at $45,000 annually.

As our Cook, you will be responsible for ensuring proper food preparation and for delivering high quality menu items. Your duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Ensuring proper opening and closing procedures are implemented and followed.
- Assisting with creating innovative and appealing menus that reflect culinary trends, seasonal ingredients, and dietary preferences.
- Preparing and cooking a variety of dishes according to recipes and standards, ensuring quality and consistency at all times.
- Conducting regular inspections of food products to ensure freshness, proper storage, and compliance with food safety regulations.
- Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, sanitation standards, and company policies at all times.
- Assisting with monitoring food costs, portion sizes, and wastage to optimize profitability while maintaining quality.
- Working in conjunction with our Operations Manager as it relates to the overall management of kitchen operations, including: inventory management, ordering supplies, maintaining cleanliness and organization, etc.
- Working with our Operations Manager regarding any repairs and maintenance of equipment, training and development for staff, overseeing subcontractors, inventory levels, etc.

**What we are looking for**:

- 3+ years of experience in a similar role is required.
- Post-secondary education in an associated field.
- Prior experience with supply and food ordering and managing associated costs is an asset but not required.
- Training in all required areas (as per Ontario law) related to working in a kitchen (WHMIS, Safe Food Handling Course, etc.) is required.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and sanitation practices.
- Passionate about the culinary field, with a focus on ongoing learning and growth.
- Possess qualities that align with our core values such as empathy, respect and integrity.
- Being comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with competing demands.
- Our Bistro is open Monday to Friday, during regular business hours. However, we do offer catering and event services outside of regular hours, and therefore, this role will require evening and/or weekend shifts from time to time.
