Job Summary:
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs technical evaluations of non-certified equipment according to the SPE-1000, and SPE-3000 codes (or in combination with other applicable requirements).- Ensures product meets technical requirements and is free of the potential for fire and shock hazards. Decisions are based on field evaluations and testing under the Field Evaluation program.- Technically competent to evaluate all products, including new and unique products, with the assistance of other technical staff as necessary.- Communicates with clients in a professional manner to schedule inspection appointments, review costing procedures, answer questions, and provide technical information service and direction based on the scope of the Field Evaluation program.- Reviews submitted technical drawings for evaluation.- Documents with sufficient detail, and technical reports for required alterations to sub-standard equipment.- Reviews details of corrective action with the client.- Conducts research on technical and procedural issues, including technical research on standards, SI Guidelines.- Collaborates with Engineering, Lab, and colleagues with respect to procedural issues, interpretation, and past practices.
Education and Experience:
- Post-secondary diploma in Technology or equivalent i.e. electrician, or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a related field.- Certification/Lab Testing experience preferred.- Working knowledge of laboratory instrumentation, as well as general laboratory procedures.- Ability to manage multiple inspection files and change schedules and deadlines with supervision.- Ability to read and interpret electrical and engineering drawings and test data as required to complete assigned duties.- Strong interpersonal skills; self-starter; good decision-making skills and organizational skills.- Strong conflict resolution skills to be able to handle difficult situations.- Bilingualism (English-French, written and spoken) is essential.- Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), Microsoft Outlook).- Usage of calibrated measurement instruments, high voltage test equipment, and hand tools.
