**Your Opportunity**:
The Laboratory Scientist II in the Specialized Diagnostics Department offers an exciting opportunity for providing advanced support and contributing to research, research translation and operationalization of assays within the public health laboratory. Key aspects include working both independently and in a team environment. Specific accountabilities include performance of molecular and microbiological tests and procedures related to research in one or more disciplines, participation in research and development activities related to test method evaluation and assay implementation, research of current literature, validation of test results and ability to recognize anomalies and discrepancies, data analyses and the drafting of scientific manuscripts. The Lab Scientist II will be knowledgeable in organizing and presenting research data and tracking costs associated with research projects, development of new protocols and implementing changes to existing protocols, supporting the preparation for laboratory accreditation while conducting research activities with an understanding and commitment to the vision, mission and mandate of the Public Health Laboratory.

**Description**:
As a Laboratory Scientist II, you will be responsible for participation in the initiation of new approaches to testing, researching the viability of given projects, facilitating methodology development and conducting advanced or complex patient tests. In addition, you will be involved in the implementation of new technologies and instrumentation and develop training procedures for new or revised programs, technology or instrumentation.

**Required Qualifications**:
Completion of a Master of Medical Laboratory Science degree or a related scientific discipline.

**Additional Required Qualifications**:
Master's of Science with specialization in Biological Sciences.

**Preferred Qualifications**:
PhD in microbiology or virology. Minimum of two years of experience as a Lab Scientist or equivalent position. One to two years of experience in Public Health Laboratory. Experience in staff management, excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to work within a team environment. Excellent critical thinking, analytical, problem solving, planning and decision-making skills. Frontline Leadership certificate or training. Process Excellence training.
