NCC is looking for a passionate person to join the Gatineau stewardship team as a Stewardship Intern. Working closely with NCC’s Coordinator of Conservation Biology, this internship position will help the stewardship team conduct fieldwork in Gatineau, process field data, and prepare reports. There are also opportunities to work closely with partner organizations, local stewards, and volunteers. This position is intended to provide an inspiring, learning-focused environment for a junior professional.

Duties and Responsibilities:_**

Under the supervision of the Project Manager and the Stewardship Coordinator, the intern will have the following responsibilities:

- Field (60%)
- Monitor biodiversity targets on CNC properties and easements;
- Monitor compliance of conservation easements;
- Monitor and track threats to properties;
- Raise awareness among land users and neighbouring landowners;
- Carry out flora and fauna inventories on properties;
- Participate in volunteer activities;
- Participate in the control of invasive exotic species.

- Participate in planning field work, including equipment preparation;
- Enter data acquired in the field into the CNC database, in connection with the monitoring of biodiversity targets;
- Write property monitoring reports, activity reports and conservation easement monitoring reports;
- Carry out threat and biodiversity target assessments in order to issue management recommendations;
- Develop training materials and awareness-raising tools on biodiversity;
- Research and review literature related to the conservation of natural environments;
- Perform any other tasks assigned by his/her supervisor.

Required Skills and Attributes:_**

This posting is targeted to individuals possessing the following skills and traits:

- Enthusiastic about conserving nature;
- Adaptable/ flexible with day-to-day plans;
- Comfortable hiking/working in remote wilderness locations without trails (dense forest with black flies / ticks etc.) for extended periods in various weather;
- Enjoys working as part of a team, and has a sense of humour, compassionate, good-natured, positive attitude;
- Clear, professional and thoughtful communicator to landowners, public, colleagues;
- Reliable, punctual, and responsible;
- Willingness to learn and follow protocols;
- Self-motivated to work independently;
- Excellent organizational skills;
- Proficient with data management and spreadsheet software;
- Physical work will be required (e.g., strenuous hiking, carrying a heavy backpack, etc.);
- Valid class “5” driver’s license
- Basic knowledge of plants, wildlife, and birds;
- Experience engaging with members of the public or volunteers;
- Standard First Aid - Level C CPR or Remote First Aid certification.

Terms of Employment:_**
- Subject to funding, this is a 16 week position from May 6, 2024, until August 23, 2024;
- Compensation: $20.00/hour;
- Travel is required for field work, including some evenings and weekends. All travel expenses will be reimbursed when personal car is used;
- Evening and weekend work may be required but is infrequent.
- Positions will include “office work” that will be completed in a work from home setting.
