Hadiya’dagénhahs First Nations, Metis and Inuit Student Centre (at Brock University) are seeking a Pow Wow Coordinator for their 2nd Annual University Pow Wow to be held in January 2025.

Reporting to the Director of Hadiya’dagénhahs First Nations, Metis and Inuit Student Centre, the Pow Wow Coordinator will be responsible for planning and social media activities related to Brock University 2nd Annual University Pow Wow. This includes overseeing the organization, dissemination, and creation of this opportunity where the entire Brock, Niagara, and Indigenous community can come together and be involved in celebrating and learning about our ways of life.
The Pow Wow Coordinator will be required to have knowledge and experience in planning events and a strong knowledge of First Nations culture and history.
**KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to**:
1. Organize and disseminate the Hadiya’dagénhahs cultural event.
2. Regularly meet with the Director, or other staff assigned by the Director, to brief and keep abreast of planning developments.
3. Develop and maintain associated materials such as articles, signage, handouts, traditional customs and ceremonies, etc. with respective parties and internal groups (Marketing & Communications, Printing Services, Parking Services, Campus Security, Hadiya’dagénhahs staff, and others).
4. Create Pow Wow Regulations.
5. Create a schedule of events.
6. Create and maintain a comprehensive contact list (drum groups, dancers, vendors, etc.).
7. Organize, chair and report on Pow Wow Committee meetings.
8. Organize and report on activities and developments of a Pow Wow Volunteer Committee.
9. Create a comprehensive budget for the event.
10. Recruit a Master of Ceremonies.
11. Recruit drum groups.
12. Organize and implement Security plans in consort with Campus Security.
13. Arrange for special guests and dignitaries.
14. Account for all funds expended during the event (detailed receipts, etc).
15. Create and schedule related social media posts including Call for Vendors, etc.
16. Create vendor information package, and seek, organize and coordinate vendors.
17. Liaison with Brock’s Marketing & Communications to schedule articles, photography, etc.
18. Create and deliver a detailed Impact Report post-event by a predetermined deadline.
**QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE**
- Preference will be given to those with previous Pow Wow planning experience and those with experience with social media and creative.
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES**
- Knowledge of traditional health practices, ceremonies, teachings, and protocols as they relate to fostering community wellness.
- Knowledge of both contemporary and traditional methods of intervention, support, and healing that are effective in promoting community, family, and individual well-being.
- Ability to collaborate with other resources/persons and facilitate inter-organizational planning and action among others.
- Ability to deal effectively with difficult situations.
- Ability to work effectively with limited supervision and under stress of deadlines and accountability.
- Exceptional organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with computer software including MS Office; Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Excellent understanding of Canva, as well as proficiency with various social media platforms.
- Proven ability to design professional social media posts.
**CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**
- Valid G driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Ability to work all hours required to complete this work at Brock’s Main Campus at 1812 Sir Isaac Brock Way.
- Must be available all day on Friday, January 17, 2025 to be present for Pow Wow.
- Travel within Niagara region may be required.
**HOW TO APPLY**:

- Be prepared to provide 2 professional references and 1 personal reference.
**Job Type**: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 5 months
Pay: $21.05-$24.65 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 15 per week
