**Berwick Comox Valley** retirement community is looking for a **Maintenance Assistant** who is reliable, authentic, and excited to make a difference in the lives of people. **Schedule**:
This position is from Sunday to Tuesday, 9:00am - 5:00pm, for a total of 24 hours weekly. **This position is temporary for 3 months with opportunity to pick up casually after that.**

**Pay**:
Staring Wage is **$25.70** per hour, (Includes provincial wage subsidy), plus shift differentials as applicable.

**Position Summary**:
Support the safe maintenance and repair of the building including independent suites, common and staff areas, parkade and grounds. These responsibilities including but not limited to painting, general electrical and plumbing, basic carpentry, grounds clean up, carpet cleaning, building and equipment repairs. This position requires compliance with health and safety regulations at all times to ensure the safety of all building occupants. Assists Maintenance Manager with all aspects of suite rejuvenation and general maintenance as assigned. This position may be assigned in areas of housekeeping, laundry, and emergency response. Carries out duties in an efficient, friendly, and courteous manner, and demonstrates a respectful and caring approach to Berwick residents and staff.

The Night Shift Laundry positions clean public and staff areas, completes laundry and linen service for residents and kitchen staff, collects garbage and recyclables, and cleans all Berwick soft and hard furnishings.

Accountable for “Emergency Response” for the building and its occupants. Provides security to building and conducts security rounds on a regular basis.

**Qualifications/Experience**:

- A minimum of 2 years experience in the field of maintenance and general repairs
- A good working knowledge of an experience in repairs, painting, electrical maintenance, safety, operating a variety of equipment, working with cleaning chemicals and carpet cleaning.
- High School completion or equivalent
- Valid Emergency level 1 First Aid Certificate and CPR
- WHMIS Certification;
- Emergency response training in the handling of emergency situations such as power outages, fire, earthquake and medical emergencies
- Experience in providing building security
- Related experience in the housekeeping field with preference given to those with 1-2 years of experience in the hospitality industry
- Trained in proper lifting techniques and an ability to lift up to 25lbs, bend, and perform repetitive movements

**Note**: *A criminal record check is required pursuant to the Criminal Records Review Act for working with vulnerable adults. Current TB test and proof of Covid-19 Vaccination also required.
