The Shipping Federation of Canada is the national association that represents and promotes the interests of the owners, operators and agents of ships involved in Canada's world trade. Operating in the dynamic shipping industry since 1903, the Federation plays a key role in ensuring a safe, efficient, competitive, environmentally sustainable, and quality-oriented marine transportation system.

We are currently seeking a **Manager, Marine Operations, **for our Montreal, QC office. Reporting to the President and CEO, the Manager, Marine Operations is responsible to act as a trusted liaison and advocate in the best interest of member companies across Canada. The Manager will provide lead operational support on regulatory compliance and work closely with committees and other stakeholders to forge consensus positions on industry issues.

The right person for this role is a self-motivated team player with a proven ability for building relationships. The successful incumbent must have proven experience in marine and ship management and possess an understanding of Canadian and international marine regulatory requirements. The successful Manager, Marine Operations must meet the key criteria below:
**Qualifications**

**Education & Experience**
- Must hold a diploma or degree from a post-secondary institution or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or sea-going experience in a senior officer position.
- Must hold a minimum of five (5) years' experience in a marine position utilizing a Transport Canada Chief Mate (or greater) Certificate of Competency
- Must have proven bridge management experience in commercial marine operations onboard vessels or a combination of experience in shoreside marine operations management.
- Must have working knowledge of Canadian and international marine regulations,, and knowledge of applicable Canadian ports and navigable waterways.

**Skills**
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to build relationships with member companies, industry colleagues, Federal regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders.
- Proven strong leadership skills with an ability to make educated decisions in the interest of the owners, operators, and agents of ships within its member companies.
- Ability to analyze and interpret technical and regulatory documentation to make recommendations to President and CEO and its member companies.
- Must possess strong English written and verbal communication skills. Must possess a minimum of verbal fluency in French.

**Position Overview**

The Manager, Marine Operations will be responsible for (but not limited to):

- Act as an expert liaison with all marine regulatory departments within levels of Federal government.
- Act as lead on all navigational and marine operational concerns for the Federation member companies.
- Act as a lead in consultation with member companies to develop a consensus position and advocate for this position to the relevant regulatory body.
- Act as a lead on various internal membership-based committees, external committees and working groups.
- Act as technical lead for Federation programs and events.
- Prepare and disseminate critical information of interest to member companies.
- Preparing verbal and written reports of both a statistical and operational nature for the President and CEO as required, undertaking special projects or studies as requested, and being responsible for all correspondence required by the position.
- This position operates in a hybrid work environment.
- Travel primarily within Canada as required.
