The purpose of Student Services is to provide a full complement of support services to students, faculty, and staff in the most inclusive and effective way possible. Within the area Accessibility Services (AS) provides accommodations and services for students with a wide range of disabilities and medical conditions, both permanent and temporary in nature.

**Responsibilities**:

- Represent Accessibility Services (AS) and Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services as the first point of contact, assist with inquiries and provide a welcoming, calm atmosphere.
- Make appointments for students and accessibility advisors and staff.
- Make suggestions for students to make use of other campus resources.
- Assist the department with initiatives, training, and communications.
- Prepare Invoices and Receipts for students utilizing Manitoba Student Aid.
- Assign accessible lockers and collect appropriate fees.
- Assist students with physical disabilities as required.
- Ensure students using the Resource Centre adhere to AS rules and policy.
- Maintain bulletin boards and brochure displays.
- Occasionally provide private space and a listening ear for students in distress.
- Provide information and clarification to faculty members regarding policies.
- Provide lists of resources for learning disability assessment when requested.
- Update resource binder of bursary information.
- Retrieve and copy medical documentation from student’s files and fax documentation to the desired institutions.
- Order office supplies for department, maintain office supply budget.
- Update Security Access List when provided proof of registration in evening or weekend courses.
- Ensure new employees in the department have keys, business cards, appropriate signage.
- Arrange for catering for workshops, AS events.
- Be knowledgeable about existing and/or updated information in order to answer FAQs from students who may have difficulty accessing or retaining this information.
- Give instructors exams and have them sign exam log book at pick up.
- Responsible for attendance record keeping for casual positions.
- Register volunteers note takers, log students into tracking portal, explain usage.
- Contact volunteers on behalf of students regarding concerns about note quality.
- Write reference letters for volunteers.
- Advertise for volunteers, arrange incentives, assists volunteers with uploading.
- Monitor classes where no one has volunteered to take notes and refer students to Accessibility Advisors to explore accommodations.
- Help in the administration of tests/exams, proctoring when needed.
- Assist Test/Exam Specialist in the training of new proctors.
- Assist students on booking tests online, release letters of accommodations.
- Log in tests received, paying attention to particulars and delivery instruction.

**Qualifications**:

- High school completion required, undergraduate degree preferred.
- Some University courses would be desirable.
- Experience with supporting individuals with disabilities is an asset.
- Knowledge of issues related to working with students with disabilities, previous experience working with students with disabilities is an asset.
- Previous experience working in a post-secondary institution in Accessibility Services preferred.
- Administrative Assistant experience preferred.
- Proven ability to work with mínimal supervision.
- Budgetary experience would be an asset.
- A good general working knowledge of the University of Winnipeg and knowledge of a variety of campus resources, especially Student Services areas, as well as external resources available to students is preferred.
- Knowledge of the University experience for students with disabilities and other accessibility issues, including barriers, issues and opportunities is an asset.
- Must have well developed organizational skills, written and oral communication skills; ability to effectively communicate with faculty, support staff, students and the general public is essential.
- Experience with computers and general technology skills with programs such as Word, Excel. Excellent computer and technical skills are considered an asset because of the variety of adaptive equipment and software accessed by students.
- Must be able to understand the attitudinal barriers encountered by students with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, visual disabilities, medical disabilities, brain injuries, learning disabilities and psychological disabilities in obtaining a post-secondary education.
- Must be able to understand the attitudinal barriers related to cultural and academic accessibility and diversity issues.
- Must be able to assess student interests, aptitudes and goals.
- Must be able to work co-operatively with members of the Unit, Student Services personnel and the University community as a whole.
- Able to develop and maintain good working relationships.
- Respond effectively in crisis situations with tact and diplomacy.
- Manages several activities simultaneously.
