The opportunity

- We are seeking an Associate to join our External Managers Group (XMG), a team that invests in various strategies across global equity markets, with a focus on generating alpha and diversifying the larger investment portfolio.
- To succeed in this role, you will need solid market knowledge and research skills, as well as the ability to perform advanced analysis of portfolio risk exposures and strategy performance in changing and evolving market environments. You will also need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a strong work ethic and initiative.
- Who you'll work with
- XMG consists of diverse investment professionals, based in Toronto and London, and it includes a team dedicated solely to Externally Managed Listed Equity strategies. Their mandate is to produce Alpha by investing in various strategies, adding diversification to the larger investment portfolio. You will work within the Global Equity Managers’ (“GEM”) team, and report to a senior member of the team. As part of a dynamic environment, the Associate will be able to interact and work with other groups in Capital Markets, leveraging the expertise of over 70 investment professionals.
- What you'll do- Monitor and report on key drivers of risk, exposure and profit/loss across individual managers and strategies and the overall GEM portfolio and strategies.-
- Work with internal teams and external providers to build world class infrastructure, technology, and tools for enhanced bottom-up and top-down analysis of GEM strategies.-
- Use tools to perform advanced analysis that supports strategic portfolio construction and tactical investment decisions.-
- Assist in the due diligence and onboarding process of external fund managers.-
- Help structure creative solutions to better implement/monitor the selected strategies.-
- Provide regular, differentiated and high-quality inputs to a collegial decision-making process regarding the total GEM portfolio.-
- Develop analytics, driving meaningful insights and develops recommendations to leadership.-
- Balance competing priorities, work independently, manage projects and thrive in a high-performance team environment with strict deadlines.- What you'll need- Undergraduate/post-graduate degree in a related technical discipline (e.g. economics, business, engineering, computer science) finance or business administration.-
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience at an investment bank/organization, asset manager, institutional investor (Pension, Foundation, Endowment), hedge fund or fund-of-funds.-
- A passion for technology and data analytics with tools such as FactSet, Bloomberg, etc.-
- Ability to model complex strategies within Excel-
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and a keen ability to convey. technical information visually (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)-
- Creativity, a strong work ethic, and initiative.#LI-JF1
