**JOB TITLE: Head Monitor**

**JOB OVERVIEW**

The Centre Linguistique del Cégep de Jonquière is excited to host its annual Explore Ottawa program this summer. Explore Ottawa is an intensive, three-week-long English language program for youth aged 13-15 from Quebec. In 2024 we are running two sessions, **from June 24th to August 9th**. The primary responsibility of the head monitor is to efficiently coordinate the monitor team, ensuring the seamless execution of sociocultural activities and workshops within the program. We are looking for a dynamic and responsible person with excellent communication and organizational skills.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Supervise 5 camp monitors and be the link between the monitors and the program manager
- Conduct regular monitor meetings, offering guidance in planning workshops and addressing any emerging issues
- Ensure monitors have necessary resources for their workshops as well as ensure that the school facilities are left in the order they were provided after the workshops
- Monitor the quality of the workshops
- Collaborate with the program manager to ensure events & outings run smoothly
- Help plan and run group activities such as assemblies, icebreakers, closing ceremony etc.
- Work with monitors to encourage English usage and enforce language and behavior rules
- Address student behavior issues, including distributing written warnings when necessary
- Assist in supervising students on afternoon and weekend outings
- Collaborate with team members on a regular basis
- Provide support and constructive feedback to camp monitors
- Report significant issues or problems to the program manager promptly
- Attend all scheduled staff meetings & orientation

**REQUIREMENTS**
- Be 18 years or older
- Proficient in English, able to communicate with students with different English levels
- Advanced level of French
- Demonstrate strong leadership skills, initiative and practical judgement
- Possess good organizational skills and a dynamic approach
- Experience and knowledge in interacting with teenagers
- Prior experience in a leadership role.
- Able to communicate respectfully with others
- Capable of working independently and collaboratively to organize activities and accomplish tasks
- Able to work flexible hours during the program duration, including weekdays and occasionally on Saturday or Sunday.

**ADDITIONAL ASSETS**

If you have any of these skills, please include them in your resume:

- Past experience in a language immersion program, such as Explore
- Coaching or teaching experience
- Proficiency in languages other than English and French

**NOTE -** All staff will complete a Police Record Check for people working with the Vulnerable Sector and a First Aid Couse. Let us know if you already fulfill these requirements.
