The Anne and Allan Bank Centre for Clinical Research Trials in the Rotman Research Institute in the Academy for Research and Education is seeking a Research Assistant/ Technician. The Anne & Allan Bank Centre for Clinical Research Trials is a multidisciplinary specialist unit, which has been set up to design, conduct, analyse and publish clinical trials and other studies.

The Rotman Research Institute (RRI) is a premier interdisciplinary, international centre for the study of human brain function. Our core research themes are: Cognitive Neuroscience, Aging and Brain Health, Alzheimer’s and Related Diseases, Computational Modeling and Neuroinformatics. Our research focuses on cognitive brain functions (including memory, executive function, attention, perception, and language), both in normal aging and in the presence of diseases and conditions that affect the brain, such as Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, stroke, and traumatic brain injury. The Rotman Research Institute supports behavioral, neuropsychological, neuroimaging, and neurocomputational studies with state-of-the-art facilities, including eye-tracking, electroencephalography, and magnetoencephalography laboratories and a research-dedicated Siemens 3 Tesla MRI in-house at Baycrest.

**Responsibilities include but are not limited to**:

- Biological specimen collection, processing and shipping to local and central laboratories
- Perform assessments such as collection of body metrics, vital signs, EKG, etc.
- Source data collection and data entry
- Collaborating with research staff to determine lab setup requirements
- Maintaining inventory of workstations, reagents, medical supplies within the lab
- Preparing, assembling and setting up material, equipment, and supplies used in research labs
- Troubleshooting issues with lab equipment and/or workstations
- Documenting and maintaining standard operating procedures
- Providing orientation and training to others on lab equipment, working procedures and practices
- Other duties as assigned by Manager

**Essential Qualifications**:

- College Certificate or acceptable combination of equivalent experience - Minimum education requires completion of a recognized Medical Laboratory Technician/Assistant/Technologist program and current registration with CMLTO/CSMLS/MLPAO/OSMT OR a College Certificate in Medical Laboratory Technician, Medical Laboratory Technologist, Health Sciences, Nursing or equivalent
- Minimum one year of experience and demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy is required
- Minimum one year of experience and demonstrated proficiency in catheter insertions is required
- One year or more of experience working in a lab environment, analyzing and shipping of biological samples, and performing other medical procedures would be assets
- Ability to prioritize and keep multiple projects/tasks moving forward at once
- Demonstrates ability to develop skill and knowledge in duties where experience is lacking
- Initiative to be a self-starter and to work independently with mínimal supervision
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Time management and organizational skills, ability to meet deadlines, attention to detail
- Problem solving, with diplomacy and tact, interpersonal expertise, and role modeling
- Partnership building - ability to gain confidence and cooperation of students, employers, and faculty members
- Knowledge of Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System regulations (WHMIS) and/or willingness to complete this training
