**Position Summary**:
Re porting to the Chair, School of Community Services, the Professor is responsible for developing, preparing, and delivering post-secondary courses. Seneca offers courses in four delivery formats: in-person, online, hybrid and flexible. Professors may teach in any one or more of the four delivery formats.

The Professor will be responsible for providing academic leadership in the classroom and within the School, ensuring an effective and compelling learning environment for students.

This will be based mainly at the Seneca at York Campus.

Faculty will be required to be on campus and may be required to teach at other campuses as needed.

**Program Area/Level**:
Responsible for teaching courses at the diploma level within the Social Service Worker program. Courses are taught from an anti-oppressive framework and may include but are not limited to topics such as social determinants of health, mental health, social problems, counselling, life span development and resiliency, and community development.

**Responsibilities**:
Under the direction of the senior academic officer of Seneca or designate, the Professor is responsible for:
**Teaching**:

- Ensuring student awareness of course objectives, approach and evaluation techniques.
- Incorporating active learning strategies in flexible, online, hybrid, and in-person classes.
- Implementing appropriate educational technology and tools in flexible, online, hybrid and in-person classes.
- Carrying out regularly scheduled instruction, which may include tutoring and academic counselling of students.
- Providing a learning environment which makes effective use of available resources and experiential learning.
- Evaluating student progress/achievement and assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of the student's work within assigned courses.

**Course and Curriculum Development**:

- Ensuring an equitable and accessible learning community in flexible, online, hybrid and in-person classes.
- Designing formative and summative assessments (alternative and authentic) for online and in-person classes.
- Consulting with program and course directors and other faculty members, advisory committees, accrediting agencies, potential employers and students.
- Defining course objectives, and evaluating and validating these objectives.
- Specifying or approving learning approaches, necessary resources, etc.
- Developing individualized instruction and multi-media presentations where applicable.
- Selecting or approving textbooks and learning materials.

**Academic Leadership**:

- Providing guidance to Instructors relative to the Instructors' teaching assignments.
- Participating in the work of curriculum and other consultative committees as requested.

**Qualifications**:
**Education**:

- Minimum completed Master’s Degree in Social Work or a closely related field is required. If Masters is in a related field, please state how it is relevant.
- Applicants with a completed Ph.D. will be given consideration.
- Current and Valid Membership with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW).

**Experience**:

- Minimum two (2) years of teaching experience at the post-secondary level is required.
- Minimum five (5) years’ professional experience working in a leadership role within a non-profit sector, advocating for diverse groups and populations facing social problems.
- Experience in a broad range of community settings and populations including but not limited to child welfare, family violence and mental health practice, the criminal justice system, immigrants, refugees and those living with disabilities.
- Experience with grant writing/fundraising and community development.
- Experience with curriculum development and knowledge of working with a critical and anti-oppressive framework.
- Experience with interdisciplinary collaboration (and research) would be an asset.

***Skills**
- Demonstrated competencies to deliver in-person, online, flexible and hybrid teaching.
- Demonstrated exceptional presentation, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills is required and demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an academic team.
- A track record of teaching excellence at the College or University level, and/or delivery of professional training and development.
- Ability to teach, engage, and supervise post-secondary students.
- Familiarity with curriculum development, student engagement, advisement, and other post-secondary practices, including Universal Design for Learning.
