**Landscape Technician II**

**Job Number***:
**47027**

Landscaping plays a key role in shaping our urban neighbourhoods and is a primary determinant of our city's environmental, financial and social sustainability. The development industry supports this sustainability by contributing millions of dollars annually in landscaping infrastructure to the City of Edmonton through the land development process. To mitigate long term maintenance liabilities, the Landscape Technician II ensures developer-contributed landscaping designs meet City standards and best practices.

The Landscape Technician II is responsible for drawing review and recommending or not recommending approval of design drawings for developer contributed landscaping and open space improvements. This position works within a multidisciplinary team of drawing reviewers. It is a highly independent role encompassing a variety of landscaping disciplines and projects of small to large scope.

Your success will be measured by your ability to achieve results in a respectful, inclusive and service-minded way. With a focus on the City of Edmonton’s Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

- Review, evaluate and prepare responses to consultants’ landscaping designs and drawings with City Landscaping Design and Construction Standards, subdivision requirements and City policies, recommending approval of drawings when City requirements, standards and other regulations have been met
- Attend meetings to explain design comments made on drawings
- Provide direction to consultants regarding design standard clauses or details that are unclear as part of the review process
- Provide feedback on design standards that require revisions due to challenges experienced during drawings review
- Prepare correspondence and memos to send to consultants and developers
- Respond to inquiries from consultants, developers and citizens
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, Council, and senior management in the implementation of City standards, policies, and bylaws; support other internal agencies by providing input and/or technical support, which may include updating City standards and the Landscape Inspector Manual
- Engage stakeholders within other sections and departments
- Provide general support in the Development Engineering and Drawing Review unit’s business operations
- Perform other related duties as required

**Qualifications**:

- Completion of a 2-year technical diploma in Landscape Technology or a related field from a recognized institute of technology
- 5 years of related experience in the field of land development and landscape architecture
- Demonstrated experience in landscape architecture practice, design and drafting
- Knowledge of landscape and construction terminology, techniques and practices
- Proven ability and experience interpreting landscape plans, drawings and specifications
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate and technical information both verbal and in writing
- Proven negotiation and interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships with development industry stakeholders, including consultants, developers, contractors and other internal City staff
- Demonstrated computer skills include CAD, digital filing systems, Google Workspace, SAP and SLIM
- Attention to detail with the ability to verify and assess documentation
- Ability to be a team player in a multi-disciplinary work environment
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize competing tasks and complete work on time
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent); obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
- Demonstrate service excellence, embracing diversity and promoting inclusiveness
- Demonstrate alignment with the Cultural Commitments of Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, fostering an environment for others to do the same. For more information on the City’s Cultural Commitments, please visit edmonton.ca/our-culture
