**JOB SUMMARY**

CNL’s Integrated Functional Support Services (IFSS) Division provides technical and strategic support for the execution of the Environmental Remediation Management Mission at sites across Canada. The IFSS Division includes branches for the Cleanup Function, Safety Analysis, Waste Management Function, Waste Strategy and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG). The divisions is responsible for ensuring that regulatory requirements are reflected in CNL Processes and implemented across CNL Sites. Ensuring processes and procedures are communicated and working with the different sites and delivery organization to ensure compliance with CNL processes and procedures. One of the key programs of work under the IFSS Division is the ongoing development and implementation of the CNL Waste Management Function.

The Waste Management Function establishes requirements and processes to ensure that activities involving planning for, generation, handling, processing, transporting, storage and disposal of wastes are performed in a manner that protects the workers, the public, and the environment, and are in compliance with applicable

**DUTIES**

Functions and responsibilities of the Waste Function Section Lead include:

- Plan and manage process improvement initiative scopes of work in relation to the Waste Management Function
- Lead the coordination of Waste Function team members in the delivery of process improvement initiatives
- Conduct key communication and stakeholder management activities to ensure process improvement initiatives are successful and sustainable
- Identify and address gaps in existing Waste Management Function requirements, processes and procedures through observations, assessments and reviews at CNL’s sites and through benchmarking against other non-CNL facilities (nuclear & non-nuclear).
- Lead applicability review of new (or revisions to) waste management regulations, regulatory guidance, and standards across CNL’s sites. Evaluates current state against standards, objectives, and specifications; and identifies gaps and potential solutions.
- Prepare regulatory correspondence, such as in response to regulator requests.
- Develop and implement appropriate Waste Management Function requirements and procedures to address identified gaps or opportunities for improvement.
- Lead in the development of processes to conduct verification and assessment of waste management practices.
- Establish, document and maintain a system to compile site-specific Function measures, waste data and records, including preparation of periodic summary reports.
- Communicate function requirements and opportunities for improvement through: a) assist in developing and delivering Waste Management Function training, b) presentations on Waste Management Function requirements at employee (safety, branch, interest group) meetings, and c) project support discussions
- Supporting the development of long-term Waste Management Function growth
- Interfacing with planning and technical staff in other parts of CNL, to meet CNL needs in a coherent integrated manner, with a particular focus on the following organizations: Cleanup Function, Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), Integrated Waste Strategy (IWS), Waste Advisors, Waste Characterization, and key Waste Generators e.g. Facilities Decommissioning and Environmental Remediation, Fuel Programme and Projects, Port Hope Area Initiative, Reactor Decommissioning, and the Whiteshell Laboratories Closure Project.
- Overseeing the work of subcontract resources in the development and completion of technical deliverables in support of process improvement initiatives to the management of waste at CNL.
- Perform other duties in support of CNL’s Waste Management Function
- Act as Waste Management Function Manager operational and Designated Representative of the Licensee (DROL) designate, as required.
- Contributes to proposals for new commercial projects and identifies opportunities where CNL is able to leverage its knowledge and capabilities.
- Act as CNL’s representative in technical working groups for waste management processes and procedures
- Provide mentorship and guidance to Waste Management Function Officers
- Work with Senior Business Planner to ensure robust field schedules are in place to implement process improvement initiatives.
