In Scope / Permanent / Full Time

Location: Regina - with the eligibility for hybrid work - this means you'll have the flexibility of working from home and in the office, on a scheduled rotation once training requirements have been met. Until then, the successful incumbent will be expected to work on-site, full-time.

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Note: This section is not intended to be an exhaustive list of duties and responsibilities - other duties and responsibilities may be assigned._- Reviews medical reports and applies the Canadian Medical Association guidelines, Canadian Council of Motor Transportation Administrators medical standards, and SGI Medical Policy guidelines when making decisions regarding medical fitness to drive.- Ensures all decisions and requests for medical information are in accordance with The Traffic Safety Act (TSA) and The Automobile Accident Insurance Act (AAIA).-
- Determines when additional medical information and/or reports are required.- Makes decisions on an individual’s driving privileges, which can include refusing, restricting, suspending, or revoking a driver’s licence.- Reviews driver files and determines if monitoring of driving privileges is needed based on the medical condition.- Provides a case management approach to difficult medical files; is a liaison with drivers, families, and healthcare professionals.- Assigns appropriate coding for keying information to the driver database.- Responds verbally and/or in writing to drivers regarding results of investigative reviews.- Responds to inquiries regarding departmental procedures and medical standards for driver licensing in Saskatchewan and Canada.- Prepares submissions to the Highway Traffic Board regarding SGI’s rationale on decisions/actions taken with respect to a driver’s medical fitness to drive.- Requests drivers to complete Driver Ability Assessments or Driver Evaluation Program Assessments when the person may be medically fit, but concerns have been identified with respect to driving skills.- Makes presentations on the Medical Review Unit and SGI’s Medical Program to various organizations, such as the MS Society, Diabetes Association, and medical staff.- Conducts appropriate investigations to determine if medical information is required.- Consults with doctors, law enforcement officers, adjusters, driver examiners, and lawyers regarding a person’s medical status or driving skills.- Reviews driver files to determine a schedule for monitoring medical conditions, when appropriate.- Provides guidance and advice for individuals concerned about family members’ driving abilities, enforcement, and medical personnel.- Oversees assignment of work and provides technical advice and guidance to Medical Review Unit administrative staff.

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS- Four-year degree in Nursing from an accredited post-secondary education institution.- Must be registered or eligible to be registered with the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses’ Association.

EXPERIENCE- 5 - 7 years’ nursing experience.
