Rexdale Community Health Centre (RCHC) is a multi-service centre providing primary health care, health promotion and community support services, including settlement and community development activities for families, children, youth, adults and seniors of diverse backgrounds.

TO Wards Peace Project (TWP) is a risk driven, community-centric interruption model that takes a public health approach to interrupting and intervening in community violence. This model leverages the lived experience of affected communities to develop and implement effective community engagement approaches, innovative communication tools, social media strategies and focused investment geared at violence prevention and interruption. The integrated approach will combine community based, social media and hospital based violence interventions.

RCHC in partnership with the City of Toronto and other partners will oversee the development and implementation of TWP. We are looking for an experienced Community Ambassador to engage with community members, organize, plan and implement ongoing education and awareness of a Public Health Approach to violence prevention and intervention.

We are looking for individuals that demonstrates a commitment to community change.

**Position Summary**:
Working closely with the TO Wards Peace Project Lead, Youth Peace Ambassador, and the broader RCHC’s Health Promotions Team, the Community Ambassador will provide culturally specific community outreach, education, information, and promote awareness and safety to mitigate violence in the community through a Public Health Approach. This approach seeks to improve the health and safety of all individuals by addressing underlying risk factors that increase the likelihood that an individual will become a victim or a perpetrator of violence. The Community Ambassador will work directly with community members by organizing events, engagement and outreach initiatives that promote the culture of safety in the community, while identifying risk and protective factors to leverage the community’s overall health and well-being in order to reduce harm.

**Responsibilities and Duties**: (but not limited to)
- Inform and educate community members on public health measures to mitigate violence
- Engage with individuals, community groups and partners through a range of methods (i.e., in person/virtual/social media)
- Organize events, engagement initiatives, information sessions, presentations and distribute resources to community members
- Dispel culturally specific myths/misinformation through culturally and language specific education and information sessions.
- Promote and educate the community of the TWP project - it’s framework and Public Health Approach to intervene and prevent violence
- Engage with local businesses, community groups, religious organizations, and respond to community member’s queries and concerns regarding violence, and provide strategies and resources to reduce and disrupt violence and conflict
- Refer community members to appropriate resources and supports within the community.

**Qualifications and Skills**:

- Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities in social service work or community work
- College Diploma preferred but not essential
- Excellent communication and presentation skills to clearly convey information in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain messaging.
- Must be able to work a variety of shifts including evenings and weekends and from a variety of locations within the Rexdale and Jane and Finch Communities
- Demonstrate a strong interest in making an impact in the community through service, leadership, and education
- Ability to motivate, encourage and empower community members to reduce and mitigate violence and conflict
- A high degree of conflict management to dealing effectively with others in challenging situations; using appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to reduce tension or conflict.
- Sensitivity to people from different socio-economic backgrounds with an equity lens.
- Self-directed, self-motivated, with a positive attitude and be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task and adjust to shifting priorities.

**Hours per week**:20 hours per week

**Duration**: to April 30th, 2023 with possibility of extension

**Salary**: $22.40 per hour
