Position Description

St. Mary’s Hospital Centre is one of McGill’s major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec. It is a community hospital with an important teaching mandate for trainees in multiple disciplines including internal medicine, medical subspecialties and family medicine.

Our career path definitions specify typical ranges of time allotted to clinical work, teaching (clinical and didactic), research and administration.

Clinical responsibilities as an Infectious Diseases specialist include:
- Inpatient consult service;- Outpatient clinic;- On-call duties, for periods of up four consecutive weeks including weekends;- The extent of provision of clinical services to sites external to St. Mary’s Hospital is negotiated with the Department of Medicine and the Director of Professional Services of the Centre intégré universitaire de santé et de services sociaux de l'Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal (CIUSSS-ODIM).

Complementary clinical responsibilities as a Medical Microbiologist, as outlined in the “
_Manuel des médecins specialistes - services de laboratoire en établissement_” (Addendum 5, “
_La charge professionnelle_”) include:
- All core microbiology laboratory activities, including: scientific and technical aspects, quality assurance, review and management of test appropriateness and utilization, and hospital management of microbiology laboratory services for institutional and ambulatory clients;- Infection prevention and control and hospital epidemiology;- Antimicrobial stewardship;- Quality improvement in the listed clinical services.- Laboratory medical microbiology. This would involve assuming a leadership role in the continual improvement of laboratory quality, leading quality improvement initiatives geared to meeting laboratory accreditation requirements, and to improve provision of microbiology services locally and within the Optilab laboratory network.- Infection prevention and control (IPC) and hospital epidemiology. This would involve assuming a leadership role in the continual improvement of the CIUSSS-ODIM Infection Control program, leading quality improvement initiatives geared to meeting clinical accreditation requirements for IPC and toward clinical innovation in this field.

Qualifications and Education Requirements- At least one additional year of clinical and /or research training is required, preferably in Medical Education, Infection Prevention and Control or Laboratory Medical Microbiology;- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills are essential;Faculty/Department/Unit: Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases
