Faculty of Music**
**The Université de Montréal Faculty of Music is seeking a half-time** **professor at the assistant level having expertise
in conducting.
**As a professor and conductor, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the excellence of the**
**Faculty of music:
**
Teaching the ensemble course relating to the Orchestre de l’Université de Montréal (OUM);
Developing and deploying the musical season in connection with that ensemble, as well as the Faculty of
Music’s Festival and all outreach activities that involve the OUM;
Giving other courses, workshops or seminars relating to your skills;
Directing or co-directing graduate students;
Contributing to the influence and operations of the institution, notably by participating in juries and
committees, in education management and in student recruitment;
Collaborating on or developing, depending on your skills, artistic research projects;
Fostering student professionalization;
Facilitating the development of external partnerships.
**To succeed in this role, you’ll need:
**
Hold a doctorate in performance. Equivalent professional experience may also be considered;
Having relevant teaching experience at the university level would be an asset;
Having relevant experience in the field of opera would be an asset;
Enjoy a recognized career in the field, in Canada and/or abroad;
Possess an adequate knowledge of the French written and spoken language **or** a strong commitment to
mastering the proficiency level required, in accordance with Université de Montréal’s Language Policy. An
institutional learning support program is offered to all professors wishing to learn French or improve their
communication skills.
Lead an orchestra rehearsal with students from different levels;
Give a 20-minute masterclass with an instrumentalist on a work whose title will not be known in advance;
Take part in an interview with the selection committee;
Give a presentation of roughly 20 minutes to the selection committee about their artistic approach and their
vision for the development of the OUM.
