**Basic Function**: Seasonal Wildlife Care is responsible work under close supervision and training, assisting in the day-to-day care for the animals in the collection, presenting educational talks and demonstrations for the public and answering queries of a general nature when asked by visitors. This position will assist and provide support in implementing the Strategic Plan.

**Responsibilities**:

- Assist with the care and feeding of animals.
- Assists with cleaning and furnishing exhibits and holding areas.
- Assists with providing training and enrichment.
- Assists with ensuring quarantine regulations are adhered to.
- Assists with crating, uncrating and restraint of animals.
- Conduct and document physical and behavioral observations.
- Assist with outreach programs including shows, tours, and casual encounters.
- Provide excellent customer service and contribute to the overall guest experience.
- Provide progress reports to Toronto Zoo staff.
- May be required to carry a 2-way radio.
- May be required to work in any Wildlife Care area.
- Follows all policies and branch instructions.
- Attends appropriate training as required.

**Qualifications**:

- Must have completed or be enrolled in a post-secondary program in environmental science, conservation biology, animal care or zoology or other applicable animal-related program, or the equivalent amount of training and related experience.
- Must have 1 - 2 years of proven experience in the same or similar position.
- Experience in interpretive/outreach programs desirable.
- Previous experience working with animals.
- Demonstrated interest/desire to work with animals and learn to care for animals in zoological institutions.
- Demonstrated interest in conservation and creating public awareness.
- Able to work in varying climate conditions.
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
- Able to produce reports.
- Ability to work in a safe manner.
- Must ensure all applicable licenses and certificates remain valid and in good standing. Copies of licenses and certificates to be provided at time of hire and upon renewal.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills, along with strong communications skills.
- Working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and WHMIS legislation an asset.
- Must be knowledgeable in the use of computerized programs and systems.
- Must be able to work weekends, shifts and holidays as scheduled.
- Must be able to deal with staff and public in a courteous and efficient manner.
- Capable of meeting the physical requirements of the position, including the ability to lift 25 kg (55 lbs).
