**About Us**:
The Ministry of Indigenous Relations works with Indigenous communities, the federal government, industry and other stakeholders to support strong, vibrant Indigenous communities and people who fully participate in a prosperous, competitive and diverse Alberta. The ministry is also responsible for:

- Promoting social and economic opportunities for Indigenous Peoples
- Co-leading Indigenous training for all Alberta public servants
- Working with other ministries to develop opportunities for Indigenous Peoples to influence land and resource management decisions.

The First Nations and Métis Relations division consists of the First Nations Relations, Métis Relations. The positions being recruited to are for the First Nations Relations branch.

First Nations Relations builds government-to-government relationships with First Nations, which are formalized through protocol agreements that provide a framework for continued collaboration between the provincial government and First Nations in Alberta.

The branch also provides advice and specialized knowledge to provincial departments, federal and municipal governments and industry, and participates in cross-ministry strategies affecting First Nations people.
First Nations Relations is also responsible for economic development initiatives across the department and administers grants like the First Nations Development Fund grant program. The branch builds partnerships between Indigenous communities, organizations, industry, other levels of government and non-Indigenous organizations to enhance the participation of Indigenous Peoples in the economy, through the administration of programs in economic development, and oversight of the Alberta Indigenous Opportunities Corporation.

**Role**:
Provide supports and coordinate strategies to building economic development capacity in Indigenous communities.
- Proactively go out to introduce branch services to communities with the Aboriginal Business Investment Fund (ABIF) teams and/or Director of First Nation Relations.
- Organize and host the delivery of program presentations and community capacity building workshops in each the various communities.
- Participate in and/or present at conferences, events and tradeshows to promote awareness of Indigenous Economic development and our programs and services.
- Provide advice and information to support pathfinding on other programs and services throughout various ministries and government levels that support Indigenous economic development activities and potential funding.
- Lead the contract process and manage vendors, as required for individual program projects that support economic development capacity building initiatives.

Monitor an assigned portfolio of grants through their duration to ensure that funding and project agreements and deliverables are met. Collaborate on establishing annual criteria for funding.
- Lead the evaluation of proposals via the Application Review Process.
- Monitor progress of the projects, providing guidance and assistance as needed to maintain project integrity.

Maintain relationships and liaison with Indigenous communities and stakeholders to enable and support economic development opportunities.
- Dialogue with federal Indigenous departments to share information on community projects and support pathfinding knowledge.
- Build relationships with staff (e.g., community economic development officers) and leaders in First Nations communities and Metis Settlements.

Engage in cross-ministry and ministry initiatives to share information and increase the integration of common work with Indigenous communities and related stakeholders.
- Participate in cross ministry/government working groups to facilitate partnerships in the delivery of economic development programming.

Identify and research emerging issues and trends to inform responses, and future strategies.
- Monitor emerging issues and trends (within or across communities) through liaison and project monitoring.
- Research issues and prepare reports and recommendations to support the Team Lead's and Director's engagement on strategic initiatives.
- Develops and writes briefing materials for senior management.
