The Multicultural Council of Windsor and Essex County (MCC) is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Accounting Assistant to join our team. The Accounting Assistant will support the finance department by performing various clerical tasks, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in financial operations. This role requires attention to detail, strong organization skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. The Accounting Assistant will assist in maintain financial records, processing invoices, reconciling accounts, and providing administrative support as needed.

** DETAILS**:

- **Accounts Payable and Receivable**:

- Process invoices, expense reports, and purchase orders accurately and timely.
- Assist in monitoring accounts receivable and following up on outstanding payments.
- **Data Entry and Record Keeping**:

- Enter financial transactions into accounting software and maintain organized records of invoices, receipts, and other financial documents
- **Bank Reconciliation**:

- Assist in reconciling bank statements and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
- **Financial Reporting**:

- Prepare basic financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, under the guidance of senior accounting staff.
- **Expense Tracking**:

- Monitor and track company expenses, ensuring adherence to budgetary guidelines.
- **Assistance in Audits**:

- Provide support during internal and external audits by gathering requested documents and assisting with audit preparation.
- **Administrative Support**:

- Assist with general administrative tasks such as filing, answering phones, and responding to inquiries from vendors and clients.
- **Compliance**:

- Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting principles, and relevant regulations.
- **Payroll Processing**:

- Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll for all employees, including regular staff, contractors, and consultants.
- Review payroll reports for accuracy and resolve any discrepancies before finalizing payments.
- Stay up-to-date on federal, provincial, and local labour laws, tax regulations, and payroll-related compliance requirements
- Oversee payroll software or systems used for processing payroll, ensuring they are efficient, reliable, and compliant with organizational needs and regulatory requirements

**QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE**:

- **Education**:

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- Relevant coursework or certification may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- **Experience**:

- Minimum 3-5 years’ prior experience in accounting or finance-related roles is preferred
- Familiarity with payroll processing, trial balance, report writing, program budgets, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processing.
- Proficiency in financial software and systems (e.g., Microsoft Office, Sage, Simply Accounting, ADP Workforce).
- **Financial Analysis and Reporting**:

- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data, analyze trends, and provide insights to support decision-making.
- Experience in preparing financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and grant reporting.
- **Regulatory Compliance**:

- Experience managing audits and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements
- **Communication Skills**:

- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present financial information effectively to diverse stakeholders, including boarding members, donors, and external partners.
- **Adaptability and Problem-Solving**:

- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and address financial challenges proactively.
