**Position Overview**

The Thrift Store Retail Clerk assists customers in donating, selecting and purchasing items from our stores. They are required to complete sales transactions and cleaning duties, ensuring the safety and security of the store.

**Responsibilities**
- Utilize a cash register; collect payments (cash, debit/credit, process voucher and in-store credit transactions).
- Monitor cash area for necessary supplies ie adequate change in register, till rolls, bags
- Provide exceptional customer service to every person entering the store by responding to their questions and ensuring needs are met.
- Stock and arrange items in the store as directed; checking all store displays to ensure that items and displays are maintained in a neat and orderly manner.
- Answer the store telephone in a tactful and courteous manner.
- Ensure that the store is maintained in a clean and inviting manner by tidying and cleaning as necessary.
- Complete opening and /or closing duties as per store schedule.
- Price and tag items in the store in accordance with established procedures
- Assist in monitoring the work of volunteers working in the store.
- Assist customers who are donating items by directing customers to the proper loading/unloading area and assisting with hauling donations to storage areas.
- Ability to refuse unsuitable donations in a polite manner.
- Keep the exterior of the store, including the receiving area, tidy, safe, and clean by removing clutter and potential hazards.

**Education and Experience**
- High School diploma or G.E.D. and experience working in a retail store preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Previous retail/cashier experience an asset.

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**
- Strong communication skills
- Enjoys interacting with the public and solving problems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability to be self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Ability to demonstrate positive and supportive interaction with customers, volunteers, staff, donors, funders, suppliers and the general public.
- Ability to shift gears and change focus when needed.
- Ability to promote the works of the Society in a positive and beneficial manner.

**Other**
- Flexibility to work various shifts Monday through Saturday is required.
- Clear Criminal Record Check required, paid for by the Society.
- Ministry of Justice Vulnerable Sector Clearance letter granting permission to work with vulnerable members of society
- Follow all Society policies and procedures.

**Salary**: $18.23 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
