SIMCOE MUSKOKA WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT BOARD AND LITERACY NETWORK

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Community Development and Communications Project Facilitator conducts outreach activities with various stakeholders to ensure stakeholders are effectively and appropriately engaged in new and ongoing initiatives. The incumbent effectively communicates and coordinates the activities of the organisation in order to enhance workforce and literacy services within the catchment area.

**JOB RESPONSIBILITIES**

The Community Development and Communications Project Facilitator will be responsible for the following key areas:
**Project and Event Planning**:

- Works in collaboration with SMWDBLN team and partners to ensure that projects and events are organized and delivered in a professional manner and suitable setting.
- Plays a lead role in the organisation of events by initiating invitations, taking registrations, ensuring that materials required are available and facilities are booked.

**Community Outreach**:

- Assists with the co-ordination of meetings with community partners to promote and implement projects and initiatives.
- Achieves broad community engagement by participation in community meetings and sits as a representative for various committees and sub-committees (i.e. Local Immigration Partnership, Apprenticeship Committee, Skilled Trades Expo).
- Effectively communicates the organisation’s activities to stakeholder communities.
- Promotes the adoption of economic development, workforce and literacy initiatives within the catchment area.
- Conducts research, formulates policies, and coordinates programs and projects targeted at stimulating greater levels of engagement with stakeholder groups, including service delivery agents, local employers and business support associations.
- Engages with funders and policy developers across all levels of government.
- Coordinates public information activities and outreach projects.

**Communications**:

- Analyses, develops and implements communication and promotion strategies and information, programs, including determining awareness / advertising needs and developing appropriate marketing plans for activities, initiatives and events, including:

- Build press kits and assist in the preparation of press conferences and other events.
- Assist in the production and proofreading of marketing materials.
- Assist with career fair and tradeshow preparation, including the gathering and shipping of marketing materials, giveaways and other materials.
- Write news stories and press releases.
- Assist with podcasting, blogging and web marketing programs.
- Maintain and update website and social media outlets.
- Maintain positive media relations.
- Initiate and coordinate labour market research.
- Assist in the development of training materials.
- Conduct research for various projects, as needed.
- Be proactive in regards to public relations issues that may affect the organisation, advising the Executive Director of these issues in a timely manner.

**General Office Duties**:

- Assist with administration or communications tasks, as needed.
- Attend Board of Director meetings, as needed.
- Complete weekly team meeting updates.
- Perform other administrative duties as required.

**SKILL REQUIREMENTS**
- Expereince in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Economic Development;
- Experience in a not-for-profit or public service environment;
- Knowledge of labour market principles;
- Professional writing, editing and graphic design ability;
- Strong knowledge of research tools and design, data analysis, and report writing;
- Evidence of exceptional interpersonal, stakeholder engagement, oral and written communication skills, including public speaking;
- Advanced knowledge of office support software including MS Office, website design and management and social media for business;
- Ability to consistently represent the organisation professionally and in a manner that reflects our values and public image;
- Availability and willingness to travel within, and occasionally outside, the catchment area;
- A valid “G” Ontario Drivers’ license.
