**About the job**
Employment Opportunity - Office of the Dave Epp, MP
Dave Epp, Member of Parliament for Chatham-Kent-Leamington, is looking to hire a Parliamentary Assistant in his Parliament Hill office. The successful applicant will be full-time with full benefits.
We are looking for someone who will work hard to become one of the best Parliamentary Assistants on the Hill. Someone who thinks 9 - 5 is nice for normal people, but this is politics so what’s normal? An assistant who is a sponge for learning, an advocate for those being hurt by this government, and committed to helping make things better.
Ideally, this is an opportunity for someone who has a passion for helping people and their country by doing exceptional research and will work hard on a ground game to get things done.
**Brief Description of Responsibilities**
- Research - providing the Member with necessary briefing materials as needed for national and international issues;
- Help manage national stakeholder relations (setting up meetings, completing meeting follow-up, and drafting correspondence);
- Write speeches, SO-31s, QP questions and correspondence;
- Committee preparation - ensuring the Member has all the appropriate printed materials required for committee;
- Other projects as required.
**Required Characteristics**:
**Passionate**: About serving Canadians. That is not a spin, it is what we are about. Don’t believe it, don’t apply.
**Curiosity**: An insatiable curiosity to process information and make sense of it, and frame it in a way to engage minds to the important questions in the public’s interest
**Commitment**: Politics isn’t a 9-5 business. We don’t want to ask if you will work after-hours events - we want you to ask if you can please attend.
**Initiative**:We are looking for someone who will take the initiative to reach out and connect with people, who will explore opportunities and anticipate future needs.
**Humour**: Politics can be discouraging and infuriating so we want someone who can see the humour or silver lining in any situation, refocus, get up and give’em hell. We believe in having fun.
- Strong organizational and time management experience;
- Ability to work under pressure with changing priorities;
- Strong multi-tasking capabilities;
- Team Player: Must demonstrate commitment to having strong opinions but then always defer to the team
- Excellent oral communication and written communication;
- Effective interpersonal skills;
- Initiative - demonstrate the ability to set goals and meet deadlines;
- Bilingualism helpful but not necessary;
- University degree is interesting, but not required. We will take hard-working and hungry to learn over a piece of paper any day.
Previous Hill experience helpful but not necessary. Willing to train motivated staffer with right skill set.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
**Benefits**:
- Dental care
- Paid time off
Flexible Language Requirement:
- French not required
Schedule:
- Day shift
- Evening shift
- Monday to Friday
- On call
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Ottawa, ON: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
Work Location: One location
Application deadline: 2023-02-28
Expected start date: 2023-03-01
